One of my biggest lightbulb moments at the start of my journey came from listening to a fantastic podcast called Side Hustle School. It was a revelation to me to realise that you could start a business really small and ‘test the waters’ so to speak without having to commit a massive amount of time or finances in to it. In 2016 I was introduced to a Business Coach and it changed the course of my life! I suddenly started to get answers as to why I was thinking, feeling and acting in the way that I was and from then on everything started to change. That year I invested in myself and begin working with a coach, and attended training events, where I was able to let go of a lot of emotions that were attached to events from my past. Having these breakthroughs had a significant impact on how I was feeling and therefore my results. Towards the end of 2016 I was given the opportunity to train to become a coach and I didn’t hesitate!
Starting from scratch is tricky especially when you're not a planner! Mostly I learnt from my mistakes and would certainly do some things differently but that's all part of running your own business! Whilst studying nutrition I became pregnant with my little boy (now 5) so my entire business (and world) changed to accommodate him. My story began back in 2015, I had returned to college after giving up work to look after my two girls. I was ready to start getting back into work, the girls were growing up and I needed something for me. However, towards the end of my college course I found out I was pregnant with my third child – this came as a huge surprise and so derailed me and my plans of going back to work, so they had to go on hold. We were thrilled to find out that we were having a boy! I however, found it difficult with the unexpected change and suffered with both pre-natal and post-natal depression. We had not had an easy 2 years prior to having our little boy.
I returned to work after I had my second child and it was from here I realised I can’t keep doing this.
On returning to work, my eldest was put in before and after school club, my baby boy was in full time nursery day care, my other half left for work at 6am each morning. By time we had got home from work and collected the children it was tea and bed for them. As a family we hardly saw each other, but also the money was terrible, the child care was expensive and left me with just £50 a month after working my ass off for a full time 40 hour a week job. I'd had enough!

My journey with Theatretrain started back at university. I was on A BA hons degree Popular music and technology. Music had always been a passion, I was always in school choirs, wrote songs and played guitar. Iwas an optional module of Musical Theatre where I first discovered my real passion. My singing teacher at the time asked if I thought about teaching, I said no way I had no patience for teaching. She said it will fall in my lap and I will love it. Not long after that she got me an interview for a teaching role at Theatretrain and my teacher was right...
AmMia was created for and named after my daughter Amelie Mia (the Am stands for And Mummy). At the moment we make anything crochet including keyrings, bookmarks, newborn baby photography props and bespoke orders.
Amelie was diagnosed at birth with Down Syndrome in March 2017 that devastated us all and so our grieving process began.
So, with having a job, a child, a house to run and general life to get on with what on earth led me to set up a business and add more to my already pretty hectic schedule? I guess I felt I owed it to others to share what had worked for me and then see if it could work for them.
