We explain why you should avoid free ETM courses when getting started in the fitness industry!

Many aspiring fitness professionals believe that completing an Exercise To Music course for free will help them to enter the fitness industry at a faster, more cost-effective rate.

But this is far from the truth! If you want to teach classes like aerobics, dance fit and step, free ETM courses will not give you what you need to pursue your career goals. To explain why this is the case, this article will cover:

To kickstart a career and set yourself up for future success, enquire about OriGym’s industry-leading Level 2 Exercise To Music course today! Alternatively, you can download our free course prospectus to learn more about this qualification!

Why You Should Avoid Free Exercise to Music Courses

exercise for music course free 2

If you’re looking to become an exercise to music instructor, it’s crucial you know while ‘free’ courses may sound appealing, ‘free’ or even very cheap Exercise To Music courses aren’t worth the paper they’re printed on.

Whilst they may bolster your general knowledge free exercise to music qualifications are not suitable for those looking to find employment in the fitness industry. This is because they lack both regulation and accreditation.

As a result, employers cannot check the validity of these qualifications and will not consider applicants who hold them.

Therefore, when looking for an ETM qualification you should look for providers that are regulated by Ofqual, and endorsed by CIMSPA.

exercise for music course free 4

Ofqual is the government body responsible for setting the frameworks for vocational courses, including ETM courses. Similarly, CIMSPA provides endorsement acts as a stamp of approval that a course meets the set industry standards.

With this in mind, choosing an ETM course that is both Ofqual and CIMSPA-regulated is important because:

  • It makes you employable. Most employers will require you to hold a qualification from a reputable and accredited course provider as part of the job entry requirements. This shows employers that you are a legitimate and legally-operating instructor. So without it, you won’t find a job as an ETM instructor!
  • You can get insured. Most reputable fitness insurance providers require you to hold an Ofqual-regulated Level 2 qualification in order to get the relevant insurance. We will discuss this further below!
  • It gives you confidence. It guarantees that you will qualify with all the skills, knowledge and experience to enter the industry with confidence and to teach high-quality ETM classes!

So, how can you make sure that you avoid an unregulated free Exercise To Music course?

A key thing to look out for when choosing an ETM course is that it is labelled by a ‘level’, as only courses that are Ofqual-regulated can do this.

For example, here at OriGym, our course is clearly labelled as a Level 2 Exercise To Music course

Many free Exercise To Music courses do not have this ‘level’ attached to them. This immediately indicates that it is not Ofqual-regulated and therefore not worth your time!

Plus, most employers will specify that your qualification must have Ofqual regulation and will therefore look for a ‘level’ on your certificate. This is evident in the following example below, from a David Lloyd’s job advertisement:

exercise for music course free 8

Another factor to consider is that if an exercise to music course is free, it likely won’t be recognised by an awarding body either.

For reference, awarding bodies act as a bridge between the regulator (Ofqual) and the training provider.

Seeing the following logos on a course provider’s website also acts as a further ‘stamp of approval’ that the course is regulated by Ofqual.

funded exercise to music courses 5

These are all Ofqual-approved awarding bodies, indicating that a course meets the highest industry standards.

This is fairly obvious, but since free exercise to music qualifications are unregulated, they won’t be partnered with any of these awarding bodies either. Essentially, you may as well just write your name on a blank piece of paper and claim to be ‘qualified’.

On the other hand, free Exercise To Music courses will not be associated with these awarding bodies, and therefore won’t meet these same standards!

Can You Get Insurance With a Free Exercise to Music Qualification?

exercise for music course free 6

In short, no, you cannot get insurance with a free Exercise To Music qualification.

This is because insurance companies require you to submit your certificate when applying for a policy with them. This is to ensure that you are a legally-operating ETM instructor.

But more importantly, they will want to see that your certificate is from a regulated course provider, which further indicates that you are trained to the highest industry standards.

For example, Insure4Sport states that you must hold a qualification ‘recognised by the UK National Governing Body for the Sport’.

funded exercise to music courses 3

In the case of Exercise To Music, this governing body is CIMSPA!

So if you have taken a free or unregulated ETM course, your certificate will not meet this requirement, and you won’t be able to get an insurance policy.

With OriGym’s Level 2 Exercise To Music course, however, you will be able to easily obtain insurance from any major insurance provider, since you will be able to provide an Ofqual and CIMSPA-endorsed certificate.

But why is getting insured so important? If you want to work as an ETM instructor, getting insurance is essential because:

  • It is required by employers. Although some may, not every gym or studio will cover you on their insurance policy- some will require you to show that you have your own. It is therefore important to get your own insurance so that you have it ready to show to employers should you need it.
  • It protects you from the law. In the event of one of your class attendees having an accident or injury in your classes, without insurance, you would be liable to cover the cost of any legal fees, or even face fines or imprisonment!
  • It protects your equipment. If you get equipment insurance, you will be protected in the event of your equipment (such as speakers, props etc) being lost, stolen or damaged.

What Are Better Alternatives to Free Exercise to Music Courses?

We have established that free Exercise To Music courses are to be avoided.

However, we understand that many people may not be able to financially commit to paying for a course in full upfront.

But don’t worry! Here are 2 alternatives to free ETM courses that will still help you save money, without sacrificing the quality of the course and your future employability:

Apply For A Funded Exercise To Music Course

exercise for music course free

One way to ease the cost of an ETM course is to apply for funding to help pay for your course.

This could be through a loan from the government, which works a lot like a student loan. You could also apply for external funding from companies such as the Open Bursary, which will also give you a loan to help pay for your ETM course.

However, whichever funding option you choose, there are some things you should consider before applying for funding for your ETM course:

  • Funded courses are still just loans, meaning that you will ultimately have to pay them back eventually!
  • Many course providers will not accept funding, so you should check this with the course provider before applying.
  • Funded Exercise To Music courses are generally more expensive overall, meaning that you will actually be spending more money in the long run.
  • There are rarely special offers, discounts or flexible payment plans with funded courses.
  • Funded Exercise To Music courses will charge interest on your repayments.
  • There are typically more entry requirements for funded ETM courses.
  • The application process is typically longer for funded Exercise To Music courses.

With these things in mind, you might want to consider another way to ease the cost of your course, which we will discuss next.

Spread The Cost Of Your ETM Course

exercise for music course free 5

Instead of applying for a loan that you will eventually have to pay back, another way to ease the cost of Exercise To Music Courses is to spread the cost.

Here at OriGym, we allow students to spread the cost of their Level 2 Exercise To Music course into monthly instalments.

In this instance, we will help you create a flexible payment plan to suit your personal financial situation, making a career in fitness accessible to any budget.

Plus, unlike most funded Exercise To Music courses, we offer 0% interest on our payment plans, meaning you’ll only be paying for your qualification, without unwanted hidden fees.

This is a great option if you cannot afford an upfront payment, but don’t want to have a loan to pay back at the start of your new career, or be hit with any nasty surprises from interest fees!

Ready To Start A Career In Exercise To Music?

Now that you know just how pointless free exercise to music courses actually are, what can you do about it? The most logical answer is to pursue training with a provider that is both regulated and accredited, such as OriGym.

Our Level 2 Exercise To Music course will provide you with the necessary skills and knowledge required to find success within the fitness industry. Even better yet, following the completion of your training we will also organise for you to attend a job interview with one of our corporate partners.

Wondering how to become a master personal trainer? Look no further! This article will cover all you need to know about starting this career, including:

Start your journey to becoming a Master Personal Trainer today by taking a Personal Trainer Diploma. Enquire today, or download our free course prospectus to check out the full range of fitness qualifications we offer!

What Is a Master Personal Trainer?

In short, a ‘Master Personal Trainer’ is simply another name for a Personal Trainer who holds a Level 4 qualification.

You will also often see the term ‘master personal trainer’ used by fitness course providers in the context of advertising PT qualifications or packages that include a Level 4 course.

As well as ‘Master Personal Trainer’, you may also see the following terms used to describe packages that include Level 4 courses:

  • Elite personal trainer
  • Platinum personal trainer
  • Deluxe personal trainer
  • Gold package
  • Black label
  • Ultimate packages

For reference, any package that includes a Level 4 course will qualify you as a “Master Personal Trainer’ regardless of what the package is actually called. This is evident from our own example below:

list of coures included in OriGym's master personal trainer package

As you can see, packages allow you to ‘become a master personal trainer’ for a significantly cheaper price than purchasing each course separately.

This is not to say every provider who uses a variation of the term ‘Master Personal Trainer’ will offer the same package. The content of the package you decide to purchase can differ from one provider to another, so be sure to read diligently.

How to Become a Master Personal Trainer: 3 Simple Steps

Now that we’ve covered the definition of the term, here are 3 simple steps you can take to becoming a Master Personal Trainer!

Step #1- Get Qualified As A Level 3 Personal Trainer

master personal trainer salary 2

Already a qualified Level 3 PT? Then you can skip straight ahead to the next section and learn how you can advance your career by choosing a Master Personal Trainer course!

But if you’re not already qualified, and are looking to launch a career within the fitness industry we have a whole guide here on how to become a personal trainer.

First and foremost, you will need to earn a Level 3 Personal Training qualification. As well as being a prerequisite for becoming a Master Personal Trainer, a Level 3 qualification is also the minimum requirement to work in most roles within the fitness industry.

The best part, you can qualify as a PT in as little as 4 weeks through the completion of a Personal Training Diploma. This qualification combines both the Level 2 Fitness Instructor and Level 3 Personal Training course, meaning the prerequisite is built in!

Upon completion of the diploma, you will be a fully qualified Level 3 personal trainer. You can then enrol on a Level 4 or ‘master’ personal trainer course in order to advance your career.

However, if you’re wondering how to become a master personal trainer in the fastest possible way we’d always recommend purchasing a package that contains the Level 3 and 4 qualifications respectively.

Not only is this faster, but purchasing a package is also cheaper than buying each course separately, making it more convenient for students.

Step #2- Choose the Right Master Personal Trainer Course

how to become a master personal trainer 3

Whether you choose to enrol in an individual Level 4 Personal Trainer course or do so as part of a Master Personal Trainer package, it is important to consider the different types of Level 4 or ‘master’ courses out there.

A Level 4 or ‘master’ personal training course is a qualification that focuses on a particular niche or area of fitness. When it comes to getting qualified, it’s important to understand that there is no general ‘Level 4 master certificate’.

Instead, you will have to choose a specific area of fitness to specialise in. For example, here at OriGym, we offer several Level 4 courses:

When choosing your Level 4 specialism, you should consider what qualification is best suited to your existing skill set and what you’re most passionate about.

It is also a good idea to consider the demand for that type of training, as this will help to ensure that you will get enough clients to make a living.

To gain a better understanding of what each qualification entails and how it can help shape your future career, we’re going to look at each OriGym level 4 course in depth.

Advanced Sports Nutrition Master Personal Trainer Course

how to become a master personal trainer 5

This means that you will be able to offer diet and nutrition advice to your clients that work alongside their bespoke exercise programmes. This includes writing specialist nutrition plans for a variety of goals, demographics and dietary requirements.

As you can see below, John Clarke is one such PT:

Lower Back Pain Management Master Personal Trainer Course

how to become a master personal trainer

With up to 60% of the adult population experiencing lower back pain at some point in their lives, it is likely that you will encounter clients with these issues.

Taking a Level 4 Lower Back Pain Management Course will qualify you to work with these types of clients, and allow you to capitalise on this high demand.

Having this qualification will allow you to design and coach clients through training programmes that will help them to exercise safely and effectively whilst recovering from this pain.

This could help you retain existing clients who incur lower back pain or attract new clients who are looking for a PT to help them overcome this specific issue.

Plus, many gym and healthcare brands are now seeking to employ master personal trainers who are qualified to work with clients suffering from lower back pain, opening up a lucrative new career path for you.

For example, this personal training company is looking for a qualified PT with a specialism in lower back pain, in order to help their elderly client base.

If you are wondering how to become a master personal trainer, specialising in training clients with lower back pain is a great career path to consider!

Obesity and Weight Management Master Personal Trainer Course

become a master pt 3

According to the Health Survey for England, the proportion of adults in England who are overweight or obese has risen from 52.9% to 64.3% since 1993.

This is therefore a huge proportion of the population that you could be targeting as a personal trainer!

Master Personal Trainers with a specialism in weight management will therefore have a much larger target client base than those who are only Level 3 qualified.

Taking OriGym’s Level 4 course in Obesity and Weight Management will equip you with the essential knowledge required to assist clients with long-term weight loss and management.

This will therefore open you up to a wider variety of employment opportunities.

For example, as a Master PT with a specialism in weight management, you would stand out as an applicant for the job advert below, which is looking for a personal trainer to support their weight management referral programme.

Diabetes Control and Weight Management Master Personal Trainer Course

become a master pt

This means that you’ll be able to programme specific training routines for this demographic and understand what precautions you need to take with diabetic clients.

You will therefore be able to attract more clients who are looking for this kind of specialist service.

For example, as a Master PT, Phelps Training is able to state that he is qualified to help those with diabetes. This therefore gives him authority as a fitness professional, making him more trustworthy to prospective clients!

Step #3- Get Insured To Become A Master Personal Trainer

master personal trainer salary

Once you are qualified, the final step in how to become a master personal trainer is to get the right insurance.

Not only does this protect both you and your clients in the event of an accident whilst training, but having your own insurance is also often a requirement from most employers.

We have a whole article here on the different types of personal trainer insurance you need.

But in summary, the main types of insurance you will need as a Master Personal Trainer are:

  • Public Liability insurance. This protects you if a claim is made against you for injury to another person or damage to property during a PT session.
  • Professional Indemnity insurance. This covers you if a client claims that you’ve offered poor advice, made a mistake, or been negligent.
  • Equipment insurance. This covers you in the case of loss, theft or damage to any equipment you use as part of being a PT.

Why You Should Become a Master Personal Trainer

how to become a master personal trainer 4

Now that we’ve covered how to become a master personal trainer, you may now be wondering: why should I take this professional stepping stone?

In summary, taking a Master Personal Trainer course will give you an advantage over a standard Level 3 qualified personal trainer for 2 key reasons:

  1. You will have more knowledge, skills and experience
  2. You will be qualified to offer a wider range of services to your clients

This all makes you more attractive to employers in the fitness industry since you have more knowledge, skills and experience to offer, helping you stand out from other applicants!

how to become a master personal trainer 9

As well as employers, self-employed Master Personal Trainers will also attract more clients compared to regular Level 3 PTs.

By using the term ‘Master Personal Trainer’ in your personal trainer marketing schemes, you immediately give an impression of authority, knowledge and experience. This makes potential clients more likely to trust you and ultimately enquire!

Being able to offer a higher level of service to your clients also means that you can charge more for your sessions- which we will discuss next.

Master Personal Trainer Salary

how to become a master personal trainer 8

When considering the career, it is likely you will be wondering, ‘What is the average Master Personal Trainer salary’?

According to Indeed, the average annual personal trainer salary in the UK is £29,120.

However, this depends on factors such as location, level of experience, and qualifications achieved, with the potential to reach up to £50k a year!

With this in mind, since they have more skills, knowledge and experience, you can certainly expect a Master Personal Trainer’s salary to be on the higher end of this scale.

When considering the salary of a Level 3 versus a Personal Trainer with a Level 4 qualification, the main difference here is amongst self-employed individuals.

master personal trainer salary 3

This is because if you work on a contracted basis for a gym, your salary is likely to be set by your employer.

However, as a self-employed Master Personal Trainer, you can set your own rates, meaning that your earnings are technically uncapped!

Since you are more qualified, you can justify charging more for your sessions as a Master PT.

Clients will be more willing to pay a higher rate for a higher level of service, as it is likely that they are looking for a more specific service- for example, help with their lower back pain, that a Level 3 PT cannot offer them.

This gives you a competitive edge, making you in demand as an expert in a specific niche.

Check out our guide to personal trainer salary for more information about the factors that can affect how much you earn!

#10 Sports Psychologist

highest paying fitness jobs 9

If you’re interested in becoming employed in one of the highest paying jobs in the fitness sector, why not consider becoming a Sports Psychologist?

According to PayScale, the average Sports Psychologist can earn anywhere between £25k – £67k every year, making it one of the most lucrative prospects to appear on this list.

Sports psychologists predominantly work with high-level sportspeople and athletes to help prepare them for the demands of their job. For example, a sports psychologist could help an athlete deal with the pressure and stress they may feel before an important competition

Being a sports psychologist is, therefore, a highly demanding yet rewarding role, and can involve the following tasks:

  • Assessing their client’s needs and behaviours
  • Creating and implementing strategies to help client’s mental health
  • Deliver 1-to-1 counselling sessions or group workshops
  • Implement strategies to improve clients’ mental health

As you can see, this role is quite different from many of the other entries on our list of the highest paying jobs in fitness. It is a very academically-focused role, rather than a physically active role.

It is therefore no surprise that you will need a degree in sports psychology for this role. If you are dedicated and passionate about pursuing this career, then committing several years to a degree is worthwhile.

#11 Fitness Lecturer

highest paying fitness jobs 1

We couldn’t talk about the highest-paying fitness jobs without mentioning one in education, and this one certainly earns its place on our list.

According to Checkasalary, the average salary for a fitness lecturer in the UK is £34,387, with the potential to make up to £47,840!

A fitness lecturer is simply a lecturer in any fitness-related subject, such as Sports Science, Sports Psychology, or Sports Journalism. This can be either at degree or college level, i.e. higher education rather than primary and secondary school.

So, what does a fitness lecturer do?

Fitness lecturers teach at college and degree levels, fulfilling responsibilities such as:

  • Delivering lectures, seminars and tutorials
  • Designing and develop teaching materials
  • Assessing students’ work
  • Moderating examinations- both written and practical

To become a fitness lecturer, you will need an undergraduate degree in a relevant subject, a master’s degree, and a PhD. This may seem like a lot, but this level of commitment is what makes it one of the best-paid fitness jobs in the UK.

REPs + CIMSPA Explained https://www.origym.co.uk/blog/reps-points-system/ Thu, 27 Jul 2023 07:00:06 +0000 https://www.origym.co.uk/blog/reps-points-system/ Wondering what CIMSPA and REPs are, as well as their differences? We answer these questions, covering everything you need to know about REPs and CIMSPA!

The post REPs + CIMSPA Explained appeared first on OriGym Centre of Excellence.

]]>

If you’re looking to work in the fitness industry, you’ll see terms like ‘REPs’ and ‘CIMSPA’ for personal training qualifications. In this article, we’ll explain discuss these organisations and their importance.

Before we get started, check out our guide to how to become a personal trainer for a step-by-step guide on how to start this career!

What is REPS?

reps points 4

REPs stands for the ‘Register of Exercise Professionals’ this is an independent register for the health and fitness sector in the UK. The main aim of this organisation is:

…to ensure that all exercise professionals are suitably knowledgeable and qualified to help safeguard and to promote the health and interests of the people who use their services.

They do this in 2 main ways:

  1. Giving accreditation to fitness course providers
  2. Offering membership to individual fitness professionals

#1- REPs Give Accreditation/Recognition to Fitness Training Course Providers

reps points 5

One of the main functions of REPs is that it provide recognition and accreditation to fitness training providers.

For example, all of OriGym’s health and fitness courses have this REPs recognition.

If a course is endorsed by REPs, it means that it meets the standards of education set by the National Occupational Standards (NOS).

These standards are set by Ofqual (the government body responsible for setting standards for all vocational training courses).

When looking at whether to give a course REPs accreditation, the NOS considers factors such as teaching quality, learning resources and assessment criteria.

Choosing a course provider with this REPs endorsement therefore gives you peace of mind that you will qualify with all the skills, knowledge and experience you need to be a competent and successful fitness professional.

This then increases your employability, as having a REPs-endorsed qualifications on your CV shows gyms or studios that you have been trained to a high standard, making them more likely to hire you!

REPs-endorsed qualifications are also internally-recognised, meaning that you can use your qualification to work as a fitness professional abroad as well as the UK.

REPs Offer Membership for Fitness Professionals

reps points 3

If you have received a qualification from a REPs-endorsed course provider, you will become eligible to register for REPs membership as a fitness professional.

It is not essential to be a REPs member in order to operate as a personal trainer or fitness professional- it is entirely optional.

However, there are some benefits to being a REPs member, such as:

  • Show clients and employers that you are committed to operating in-line with the highest industry standards. This can therefore increase your employability and help you attract more clients!
  • Include your REPs status on things like your CV, website and social media.
  • Appear on the REPs register of fitness professionals, which will display your contact details, qualifications and social media profiles for those who want to contact you.
  • REPs offer insurance that you can add-on to your membership, however this is at an extra cost.

To become a REPs member, you must also pay a yearly membership fee, which starts from £49. You will also need to complete a certain amount of CPD courses each year (worth 12 REPs points) to renew your membership.

What Are REPS Points?

reps points 2

When looking into fitness qualifications, you may have also come across REPs points system.

REPs attribute a certain amount of points to different qualifications. The amount of points a qualification is given is based on factors such as the length and difficulty of the course.

For example, here are some of the points attributed to OriGym’s qualifications:

Please note you will only receive these points after you have completed your chosen qualification.

To maintain your REPs membership, you have to have completed a minimum of 12 REPs points in CPD courses every year.

The REPs points attributed to CPDs vary, depending on the course length, difficulty and whether there is a formal assessment.

For example, here at OriGym, our CPD courses earn between 8 and 16 REPs points, because they are a minimum of 8 hours and include a formal assessment.

Enjoying this article so far? Here’s 3 more that we think you’ll love:

What is CIMSPA?

reps points 6

CIMSPA stands for the ‘The Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity’ and is the professional development body for the sport and physical activity sector in the UK.

CIMPSA therefore acts to provide regulation across the health and fitness industry to ensure high standards of practice amongst both course providers and individual fitness professionals- just like REPs does!

Having a qualification with CIMSPA accreditation therefore also acts as a ‘stamp of approval’ to employers that a fitness course has met the highest industry standards in terms of teaching, resources and assessments.

For example, all of OriGym’s health and fitness courses are endorsed by CIMSPA, giving you even more assurance that you are receiving the highest quality of education in the industry.

Like REPs, CIMSPA-approved qualifications such as OriGym’s are also internationally-recognised.

CIMSPA also offers a membership system for fitness professionals, which has similar features to REPs membership and costs around £30 a year.

We have a whole article here explaining exactly what CIMSPA is for more detailed information about this organisation and what membership involves.

What is The Relationship Between REPs and CIMSPA?

reps points

There is often some confusion between REPs and CIMSPA since both have the same overall aim of regulating the fitness sector.

This confusion may also come from the fact that in 2020, REPs and CIMSPA merged together to create one single directory of fitness professionals in the UK. However, this is no longer the case, as REPs and CIMSPA are now 2 separate organisations!

You may therefore be wondering which is the best accreditation to look out for in a course provider: CIMSPA or REPs?

In short, it is best to look for a personal training course that has both, such as OriGym’s!

Since they are so similar, there is also no right or wrong answer as to which organisation you register for a membership with as a fitness professional- if any!

It is also worth noting that a lot of the benefits of a REPs or CIMSPA membership, you will receive from OriGym’s post-course support.

For example, like the REPs directory, all OriGym graduates get access to our personal training jobs board, which we have set-up with our corporate partner, Active Careers, to give students the opportunity to get ahead in the industry, with some of the biggest employers in the UK:

Reps and CIMSPA points

This all comes absolutely free to all of our alumni, whereas REPs and CIMSPA members come at a yearly membership fee.

Before You Go!

We hope that you now have a clear understanding of REPs and CIMSPA, the difference between them and the importance of choosing a qualification with their endorsement.

Download OriGym’s FREE course prospectus to learn more about this course, and our advanced Level 4 training!

Step 1- Get Qualified To Become A Travelling Yoga Teacher

travelling yoga instructor 4

If you’re not already, the first step in becoming a travelling yoga instructor is to get qualified.

You will need to take a Level 3 yoga teacher training course. This is the minimum requirement to become a yoga instructor both in the UK and to travel abroad.

Here at OriGym, our Level 3 yoga teacher qualification is an entry-level course that gives you a strong foundation of skills, knowledge and experience to become a yoga travelling yoga teacher.

If you want to travel as a yoga teacher, you will need to make sure that your qualification is internationally recognised.

With this in mind, OriGym’s yoga teacher training course is regulated by Ofqual. This not only means that the course meets the highest standards of training in the industry, but Ofqual is also internationally recognised.

This means that when you come to work as a yoga teacher in another country, your qualification will be recognised by employers all over the world.

Without this, you may have to take another training course in whichever country you are in, which of course requires lots of time, money and effort!

Step 2- Gain Teaching Experience At Home Before Becoming A Travelling Yoga Teacher

travelling yoga teacher 5

Once you are qualified, the next step in becoming a travelling yoga instructor is to start to gain some teaching experience.

You may be keen to start travelling and teaching yoga straight away.

But taking the time to get some teaching experience before you leave will make it a lot easier to find yoga travels jobs when you are out there.

Whilst you will be able to find entry-level jobs, many jobs will ask for some years of experience. This is particularly the case for jobs in places such as yoga retreats or high-end retreats.

Plus, getting experience before you leave will help you gain confidence and find your yoga teaching style, making the process of becoming a travelling yoga instructor a lot less daunting.

Step 3- Find A Travelling Yoga Teaching Job

travelling yoga instructor 2

Once you are qualified and have started gaining some experience, you can now start looking for yoga travel jobs!

However, it can be hard to know where to start. So, here are some things to consider to help you land your dream job as a travelling yoga teacher:

Most yoga teaching roles around the world will require you to submit a CV and/or cover letter as part of the application.

They are a great opportunity to sell yourself as a yoga teacher and can help you stand out amongst other applicants.

However, there are some extra things you may want to include that are relevant for yoga travel jobs, such as:

  • Language skills- particularly if you are applying for a job in a specific country
  • Visa and work eligibility details
  • Any other abroad work experience you may have e.g. in summer camps, cruise ships etc.

Once you have your CV prepared, you are all set to start looking for jobs!

Unlike working as a yoga teacher in just one destination, if you are wanting to become a travelling yoga teacher, it is likely that you will have several different jobs as you move between different locations.

With this in mind, there are two main options when it comes to finding a job as a travelling yoga instructor:

Find A Yoga Teaching Job Before You Go Travelling

If you want to ensure that you have a job when you get to your first destination for financial security, it is a good idea to start looking for jobs online before you go.

Some useful websites for finding yoga travel jobs are Yoga Travel Jobs and Yoga Trade.

Find A Yoga Teaching Job When You Get There/ As You Are Travelling

travelling yoga instructor 8

If you are wanting to become a travelling yoga teacher, you can also find your jobs as and when you are travelling.

This is a good option if you have no set destinations or timeframe in mind (i.e. you don’t know how long you will spend in each place, or where your next destination will be).

Some ways to find travel yoga jobs when you get there are:

  • Networking with other yoga teachers when you get there (by going to yoga classes, finding groups online etc)
  • Using social media, e.g. posting to tell your followers that you are in travelling and looking for a job
  • Putting physical job advert posters/ flyers in the area you are staying
  • Word-of-mouth as you meet people travelling

This can therefore open you up to more opportunities that you may not have found online before you go.

Depending on the country, you may find that many jobs are not actually advertised online.

Whichever way you choose to find a job, here are some of the ways that you can work as a travelling yoga teacher:

#1- Work As A Travelling Yoga Instructor Teaching Online Classes

travelling yoga teacher 7

One of the best yoga travel jobs is to teach online yoga classes.

This means that you can teach yoga from wherever you are in the world. All you need is yourself, a mat and your laptop!

Working as an online yoga teacher gives you ultimate flexibility, as you are not tied down to a specific location. This is therefore a great option if you don’t have a specific itinerary of destinations in mind before you start travelling.

Not being tied to a location also means that you open yourself up to more students, as you can teach people from all over the world and are not limited by class size. This therefore gives you a potentially uncapped earning potential!

We have a whole guide on how to become an online yoga teacher here for tips on how to get started.

#2- Work As A Travelling Yoga Teacher At Yoga Retreats

Another great way to work as a travelling yoga teacher is to teach work on a yoga retreat.

You can find a job teaching yoga at a retreat on the same yoga travel jobs websites we mentioned above, or on websites such as Retreat Hub that list exclusively yoga retreat jobs.

This is a great option if you are a more experienced yoga teacher, as most yoga retreat roles will ask for yoga teachers with a few years of teaching experience.

For example, the job advert for a yoga retreat role states that 2 year’s experience is required:

yoga travel jobs

Plus, yoga retreats are often run in luxury and scenic locations around the world, so it is a great way to work as a yoga teacher and see the world at the same time!

Since yoga retreats run over fixed dates for a certain amount of time (from a few days to months), you would therefore have to be sure that you could commit to being in one place for that amount of time.

#3- Work As A Travelling Yoga Teacher On A Cruise Ship

travelling yoga teacher

Another great way to travel the world whilst teaching yoga is to work on a cruise ship.

One of the main things to note about this kind of work is the hours you would be expected to work.

In general, you would be teaching classes every day. However, this is balanced out by long periods of time off where you are free to explore wherever the cruise ship is travelling to!

As a yoga teacher on a cruise ship, you will often have to do other tasks such as maintaining and cleaning the gym, or even teaching other fitness classes.

We have a whole step-by-step guide here to how to become a yoga teacher on a cruise ship for more information about this role!

Enjoying this article so far? Here’s 3 more that we think you’ll love:

#4- Work As A Travelling Yoga Instructor In Hostels

travelling yoga instructor 9

One of the most popular ways to work as a travelling yoga instructor is to work in hostels.

Most hostels around the world will offer yoga classes to their guests, particularly in popular tourist destinations in Asia and Australia.

You can find yoga teaching jobs in hostels either on a freelance or contracted basis. You could find this before you go online, or when you get there through networking and word-of-mouth.

Since yoga classes in hostels are often run for free or on a donation basis, you may find that you are teaching for free at first or for a small fee.

However, it can be a great way to gain experience as a travelling yoga instructor, particularly at the start of your travels.

Many hostels also hire yoga teachers on a work exchange basis. This is when you will teach yoga in exchange for accommodation at the hostel.

So whilst you wouldn’t receive a salary, this could be balanced out by free accommodation and often other free perks such as free meals!

Plus, hostels are usually very sociable places, so it can be a great way to meet new people if you are travelling alone.

The best place to look for yoga travel jobs in hostels is WorkAway. This is an online platform where hostels will advertise for staff in exchange for accommodation.

#5- Work As A Travelling Yoga Instructor In A Hotel Or Resort

travelling yoga teacher 6

Finally, another of the most popular yoga travel jobs is working in hotels or resorts.

Similar to hostels, most hotels and resorts will offer yoga classes to their guests, often as part of their gym or fitness centre.

You will most likely be hired on a freelance or contracted basis.

You may also receive perks such as free accommodation and meals, but this is often in addition to a salary, rather than as a work exchange.

This is usually because compared to hostels, hotels and resorts will have a higher budget to spend on their employees- particularly if you work for a hotel chain.

It is also worth noting that many hotels and resorts will only hire staff seasonally, on a fixed-term contract basis, to account for the popular tourist times of that destination.

If you want to teach yoga in a hotel or resort in a particular location, you will therefore need to consider the seasonal times of that place, as this could affect the amount of jobs available there.

Yoga travel jobs at hotels and resorts are also advertised online on websites such as Yoga Travel Jobs, but there are also more specific websites such as Resort Work that advertise exclusively jobs in resorts around the world.

Step 4- Build Up An Online Presence Before Becoming A Yoga Teacher Abroad

travelling yoga instructor 6

Once you have considered how you will find work as a travelling yoga instructor and considered the type of role you want, it is a good idea to build up an online presence as a yoga teacher before you leave.

The best way to do this is to build up a following on social media, especially on Instagram and Facebook.

As well as finding jobs online or through networking in person, social media is also a great tool for finding teaching opportunities, as you can post about your travels and find local yoga studios by networking.

The more followers you have, the more potential connections you have that could lead to you finding a job as a travelling yoga teacher!

Plus, you could highlight your social media to employers as a way to show your personality as well as just your qualifications. It also demonstrates your marketing skills, which is often a requirement of yoga teacher jobs.

If you have an itinerary planned for your travels, you should use social media to establish connections ahead of arriving in your various destinations, which could ultimately lead to a job opportunity.

It is also beneficial on a personal level, as it could help you meet other like-minded travelling yoga teachers, particularly if you are travelling alone!

Step 5- Get Insured To Work As A Travelling Yoga Teacher

The next important step of becoming a travelling yoga instructor is to get insured.

There are 2 main types of insurance you will need to teach yoga whilst travelling: travel insurance for working abroad, and specific yoga teacher insurance.

Get Travel Insurance For Working As A Travelling Yoga Instructor

travelling yoga instructor 3

This is simply insurance that covers you for any kind of work abroad.

This is different to standard travel insurance, as it covers you for working, rather than just leisure.

A work abroad insurance policy will typically cover things such as:

  • Medical care if you have an accident whilst teaching yoga abroad
  • Travel costs if you have to return home after being injured
  • Loss or damage to your property whilst travelling such as yoga equipment

Without this insurance, you would be required to pay the cost of these things yourself, which could be hundreds and thousands of pounds!

Top Dog Insurance and Navigator Insurance both have good working abroad travel insurance policies.

One thing to bear in mind when choosing a working abroad travel insurance policy is that it covers all the continents you are planning on travelling to! If you are not sure yet, then it is worth getting a worldwide policy.

Get Yoga Teacher Insurance To Work As A Travelling Yoga Teacher

travelling yoga teacher 3

As well as travel insurance, you will also need standard yoga teacher insurance, just as you would for working as a yoga teacher in the UK.

We have a whole article here on yoga teacher insurance.

But in summary, the main types of insurance you will need as a travelling yoga instructor are:

  • Public liability insurance
  • Professional liability insurance
  • Equipment insurance

Check out Insure 4 Sport and BeYogi for good yoga teacher insurance policies.

Step 6- Prepare Your Documents For Becoming A Travelling Yoga Teacher

travelling yoga instructor 7

Before you leave you will need to ensure that you have all the necessary documents required to become a travelling yoga instructor.

The 2 key documents you need to remember are:

  • An up-to-date passport. Many countries will require you to have at least 6 months validity on your passport before your arrival date in that country. However, you should check with the passport requirements for each country you are visiting, as this may vary.
  • The appropriate visa. Most countries will require you to have a working visa to work as a yoga teacher there. Again, the types and lengths of visas will vary for each country. Check out the UK government’s travel advice for information specific to each country.

Remember that the process of applying for passports and visas can take several weeks or even months, so ensure that you allow plenty of time for this before you start travelling.

As well as being a legal requirement, when looking for yoga travel jobs, many employers will ask for evidence of a valid passport and visa before they employ foreign workers.

Some other documents that may be useful to have with you- whether in their original form or as copies, are:

  • Birth certificate
  • Passport photos
  • Your yoga training certificate
  • Driving licence
  • Insurance policy

You should also ensure that you have the required vaccinations for the country or countries you are travelling to.

Another thing to prepare before you go is your finances!

travelling yoga teacher 9

Although you will be ultimately earning money as a travelling yoga teacher, it can sometimes take time to establish a regular salary. You should therefore ensure that you have enough money before you go to cover the costs of things such as:

  • Accommodation
  • Flights
  • Visa
  • Food
  • Vaccinations
  • Insurance

Remember that the more prepared you are before you leave, the less you have to think about when you are travelling, so the more time and effort you can put into being a good yoga teacher.

Step 7- Take Additional Courses To Become A Specialist Travelling Yoga Teacher

The final step is to take additional courses to increase your chances of finding yoga travel jobs.

This is optional, but we highly recommend it if you want to stand out in an already competitive market of travelling yoga instructors.

Take A Level 4 Yoga Teacher Training Course To Become A Travelling Yoga Teacher

travelling yoga instructor

Once you’re a Level 3 qualified yoga teacher, you can then take a Level 4 yoga teacher training course.

Here at OriGym, our Ofqual-regulated Level 4 yoga teacher training course builds on the knowledge and skills you learn at Level 3, covering content such as:

  • Teaching Yoga as a Profession
  • Understanding and Applying the Philosophy and Spiritual Principles of Yoga
  • Yogic Breathing Styles
  • Teaching Asana to Meet the Needs of Mixed Ability Students
  • Planning & Delivering Yoga Sessions

You can also choose to specialise in a specialist style of yoga, such as Hatha or Ashtanga.

If you are planning to work as a freelance or self-employed travelling yoga teacher, this means that you can advertise yourself as a specialist yoga teacher.

You can therefore charge more for your classes, since you are offering a higher standard of teaching to your students.

A Level 4 qualification will also make you qualified for a wider range of yoga travel jobs, as many jobs will be looking for a specific type of yoga teacher (e.g. a Yin yoga teacher).

This is particularly important if you want to work in places like yoga retreats, which will often require a higher level of qualification and experience.

Take A Level 2 Fitness Instructor Course To Increase Your Chances Of Becoming A Travelling Yoga Teacher

If you want to become a travelling yoga instructor, you may be wondering why you should take a fitness instructing course!

But in fact, a Level 2 fitness/gym instructing qualification is a highly valuable addition to your CV when applying to yoga travel jobs.

This is because many roles will require you to also teach other fitness classes, not just yoga.

This is particularly the case for jobs in hotels, resorts or on cruise ships, where you would be teaching yoga as part of a gym or fitness centre.

Having a Level 2 gym instructor qualification would therefore open you up to these jobs!

Before You Go!

Now that you know how to become a travelling yoga teacher, you can put this advice into action and take your practice anywhere in the world!

Remember, completing a Level 3 Yoga Teaching Diploma can help with this process, as this course is fully internationally recognised!

Some things to consider are:

#1- Decide Where You Want To Become A Yoga Teacher In India

become a yoga teacher in india 2

In the UK, yoga can sometimes be viewed as just another fitness class.

However, as the spiritual home of yoga, in India, yoga is an inherent part of everyday life! You will find yoga in every corner of the country and is practised by people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds.

Due to its widespread nature, you should try to narrow down where exactly you want to teach yoga.

Here is a quick guide to India’s main locations for teaching yoga:

  • Rishikesh. This is known as the ‘yoga capital of the world’ and is the spiritual hub of India. There are hundreds of yoga schools, studios and centres here, so you will be spoilt for choice! You will find all styles of yoga here, but particularly traditional Hatha and more spiritual practices such as Kundalini and meditation.
  • Goa and Kerala. These Southern Indian states are also popular places for yoga, particularly if you want to teach on the beach! Here you will find a range of styles such as vinyasa, Hatha, Ashtanga and Yin.
  • Mysore. This is the place to go if you want to become an Ashtanga yoga teacher in India, as it is where this practice originated from.

#2- Decide How You Want To Work As A Yoga Teacher In India

become a yoga teacher in india 6

As well as the location, you should think about how you want to be employed as a yoga teacher in India.

We have a whole guide covering the different places you can teach yoga here, most of which apply to finding a yoga job in India.

In summary, your main options for where to teach yoga in India are:

  • Working full-time for one employer
  • Working as a part-time yoga teacher, and part-time in another job (for example, you could teach yoga part-time and work part-time in a hostel or cafe!)
  • Working as a freelance yoga teacher for different employers
  • Running your own yoga business or studio

But having an idea of the kind of employment you are looking for before you go will not only make the process of finding a job easier, but it will also help you plan your finances.

#3- Consider Your Financial Situation Before You Become A Yoga Teacher In India

If you’re wondering how to become a yoga teacher in India, you should ensure that you have the financial means to do so!

Some costs you should make sure you have accounted for before you go are:

  • Accommodation
  • Flights
  • Visas
  • Vaccinations
  • Reserve funds for when you arrive – you may not start working straight away
  • Travel insurance

Again, organising these financial details before you go means that you will be more prepared when you get there, avoids any nasty surprises and allows you to focus more on your yoga teaching!

Step 2- Gain The Required Qualifications To Become A Yoga Teacher In India

If you want to become a yoga instructor in India, the next and most important step is to get qualified!

Whilst you can of course take a yoga teacher training course in India, we recommend getting qualified here in the UK before you go- you’ll feel more prepared, confident and equipped to put all of your efforts into finding a job as a yoga teacher in India.

We have a whole article here detailing how to become a yoga instructor. But in summary, here are the two key qualifications you will need to become a yoga teacher in India:

Take A Level 3 Yoga Teacher Training Course To Become A Yoga Teacher In India

how to become a yoga teacher in india 2

If you’re not already qualified, you will need to take a Level 3 yoga teacher training course.

This is the minimum requirement to work as a yoga teacher both in the UK and is the first step towards teaching yoga in India.

This is an entry-level course that will give you a strong foundation of knowledge and skills to start teaching yoga, covering:

  • Anatomy and physiology for yoga
  • Health and safety during yoga
  • Planning a yoga session
  • Teaching skills

This content is taught over 317 hours of learning, including 50 hours of practical teaching experience through in-person workshops- most yoga jobs in India will require you to have at least 200 hours of training.

To ensure that the course covers all the necessary content to become a yoga teacher, you should ensure that it is Ofqual-regulated, just like our yoga courses are.

Ofqual is the government body responsible for setting the frameworks for vocational course levels and for ensuring that all awarding bodies adhere to those frameworks.

In other words, Ofqual regulation acts as a ‘stamp of approval’ that a course meets the highest industry standards of teaching and education.

Take A Level 4 Yoga Teacher Training Course To Increase Your Chances Of Becoming A Yoga Teacher In India

become a yoga teacher in india

Once you are a Level 3 yoga teacher, you can then enrol on a Level 4 yoga teacher training course.

Here at OriGym, our Ofqual-regulated Level 4 course builds on what you learnt in your Level 3 course, covering topics such as:

  • Teaching Yoga as a Profession
  • Understanding and Applying the Philosophy and Spiritual Principles of Yoga
  • Yogic Breathing Styles
  • Teaching Asana to Meet the Needs of Mixed Ability Students
  • Planning & Delivering Yoga Sessions

Our course also allows you to then specialise in one of four types of yoga:

  • Ashtanga
  • Hatha
  • Hot

Specialising in a particular type of yoga is a great way to enhance your employability both in the UK and India, as it opens you up to a wider range of roles.

Plus, in India especially, you are more likely to find roles for a specific type of yoga teacher. Whereas in the UK, gyms and studios typically hire a general yoga teacher.

For example, this advert below is for a specific Hatha yoga teacher in India:

Do I Need A Specific Indian Qualification To Become A Yoga Teacher In India?

If you have been researching how to become a yoga teacher in India, you may be wondering whether you need a specific Indian qualification to teach yoga there.

You may have come across the terms ‘YCB’ and ‘AYUSH’ in terms of yoga certification and accreditation in India.

AYUSH stands for The Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy.

yoga teacher india 3

It was set up by the Indian government in 2015 and is responsible for developing research and education in India’s ‘alternative medicine’ systems.

YCB stands for the Yoga Certification Board, and is part of The Ministry of AYUSH.

The YCB provides regulation and certification specifically for yoga professionals in India, helping maintain high standards of education and training across yoga teachers and schools in India.

In most cases, getting your Level 3 and Level 4 yoga qualifications with OriGym in the UK is enough to allow you to become a yoga instructor in India.

However, you may find that some yoga jobs in India will ask for a YCB certified yoga teacher.

But don’t worry! Once you are a qualified Level 3 or 4 yoga teacher, it is easy to get this YCB certification.

yoga teacher india 2

The YCB has five main levels of yoga teacher training, which it lists on its website here.

But in summary, the level you will need to look at is called ‘Yoga Protocol Instructor’, which qualifies you to teach in most capacities in India.

The YCB Yoga Protocol Instructor exam usually consists of an hour written multiple choice examination, and an hour practical examination where you will demonstrate your yoga skills in front of an examiner.

If you have taken your Level 3 and 4 yoga qualifications with OriGym, you will therefore be more than equipped to take the YCB exam and you should find it easy!

Since it is an Indian institution, you can only take the YCB Yoga Protocol Instructor in India itself.

how to become a yoga teacher in india

The YCB has a handy guide to how to apply for this exam here.

For a foreign yoga professional to take this YCB exam, the fee is usually around £142.

With this in mind, we recommend seeing whether you can find a job as a yoga teacher first.

If you are finding that employers are asking for a YCB certificate, then you could look into taking the YCB exam.

So, whilst you can easily find a job as a yoga teacher in India with OriGym’s yoga teacher training qualification, you may find that taking the YCB exam when you get there simply opens you up to some more jobs.

Step 3- Gain Teaching Experience At Home Before You Become A Yoga Teacher In India

become a yoga teacher in india 7

Once you are qualified, the next step in how to become a yoga teacher in India is to get some teaching experience at home before you go.

Spending the time to do this before you go to India will make it easier for you to find a job when you get there.

This is because as a highly competitive market, most yoga teacher jobs in India will require applicants to have some prior teaching experience.

Remember that yoga is a way of life in India and people start practising it from childhood. This means that there are a lot more people wanting to become yoga teachers there than in the UK!

As well as helping you find a job teaching yoga in India, getting experience at home before you go will also give you more confidence and help you find your own unique teaching style.

This will then make the whole process of becoming a yoga teacher in India a lot less daunting!

Step 4- Get The Required Travel Documents To Become A Yoga Teacher In India

how to become a yoga teacher in india 8

Before we can go any further with how to become a yoga teacher, you should ensure that you have the required documents to live and work in India.

Without these, you definitely won’t be able to become a yoga teacher in India!

The main documents you will need to prepare before you go are:

  • Passport. According to the British Government’s travel advice for India, you should ensure that your passport is valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date in India.
  • Visa. To live and work in India, you will need to apply for an employment visa from the High Commission Of India here

It’s important to bear in mind that the process of applying for and receiving your visa can take weeks or even months! So ensure that you apply in plenty of time before you are planning to leave for India to avoid complications.

You should also make physical copies of all of your documents, as you never know when you will need them!

Depending on where you go in India, many organisations will still require hard copies of documents rather than electronic versions.

Some documents that are useful to have copies of are:

  • Copies of your passport and visa
  • Birth certificate
  • Several passport photos
  • Your yoga course certificate
  • Your visa
  • Driving licence
  • Insurance policy- which we will cover next!

One final thing to bear in mind is that there are restrictions on taking Indian currency (Rupees) into India- you cannot bring any amount of Rupees into the country.

You will therefore need to bring a bank card with you that you can use to withdraw cash when you get to India, so ensure that your bank card has enough money on it and you are aware of any cash withdrawal limits.

Step 5 – Get Insured To Become A Yoga Instructor In India

There are 2 types of insurance you will need: general travel insurance for working in India, and yoga teacher insurance.

Travel Insurance To Work Abroad

how to become a yoga teacher in india 5

This is essentially insurance that covers you for any type of work in India and is different from general travel insurance you might get for holidays and leisure.

With a working abroad travel insurance policy, you should be covered for things such as:

  • Accidents and injuries whilst working
  • Travel costs if you have to return home because of an injury at work
  • Loss of damage of your luggage and belongings

Without the right insurance, you would have to cover the cost of these things yourself.

India does not have public healthcare like we do in the UK, so medical care can be very expensive if you are not insured.

Top Dog Insurance and Navigator Insurance both have good working abroad

Yoga Teacher Insurance

become a yoga teacher in india 8

Just like any yoga teacher job in the UK, you will need yoga teacher insurance to become a yoga teacher in India.

If you have been teaching yoga in the UK, this is something that you should already have. But if you’ve just recently qualified, this is something you should invest in before moving to India.

We have a whole guide to yoga teacher insurance here.

In summary, the main types of insurance you will need are:

  • Public liability insurance. This covers you in cases such as a student getting injured during one of your classes, or if you damage equipment provided to you by a studio you are working in, for example.
  • Professional liability insurance. This is particularly important if you are wanting to become a yoga instructor in India on a self-employed/ freelance basis. This covers claims of professional mistakes or professional negligence.

For example, if a student claims that they have received incorrect advice from you, this covers you for the costs of defending yourself in court.

  • Equipment insurance. Whilst not essential, getting equipment insurance is a good idea if you are using your own yoga equipment. This covers you in the case of your equipment being lost, damaged or stolen.

Insure 4 Sport and BeYogi both have good insurance policies to look into.

Step 6- Prepare Your CV And Cover Letter To Become A Yoga Instructor In India

become a yoga teacher in india 9

The next step in preparing to become a yoga teacher in India is to write your CV and cover letter.

Preparing these things now will mean that you have them ready for when it comes to applying for a yoga teaching job in India, as you will nearly always have to include them as part of an application.

If you are planning on finding a job when you get there (as we will discuss next), it is a good idea to print some copies of your CV to take with you.

Depending on the type of job you are applying for, you may also need a cover letter.

Where a CV is a more general overview of yourself, a cover letter should be tailored to each specific job you are applying for.

It is a good idea to prepare a draft cover letter that you can then adapt to different employers.

Step 7- Find A Job As A Yoga Teacher In India

Now that you have prepared everything, the final step is to actually find a yoga teaching job in India!

There are two main options for how to do this:

Option #1- Find A Yoga Teaching Job In India Before You Go To India

how to become a yoga teacher in india 7

If you want to ensure that you have a job as soon as you arrive in India, it is a good idea to look for positions online before you go.

Some useful websites that list yoga jobs in India are:

On all of these websites, you can refine your search according to criteria such as:

  • Specific location/region in India
  • Type of employment, i.e. part-time, full-time, freelance
  • Type of yoga
  • Experience level
  • Salary

Knowing you have a job secured before you go means that you can plan your finances for things such as paying your accommodation and other costs of living.

However, finding your job before you go means that you may have much less options- this is because in general, in India, many yoga teaching jobs are not advertised online.

Instead, you may be more likely to find a job when you are there through word-of-mouth or by seeing a physical job advert on a shop window!

Option #2- Find A Yoga Teaching Job When You Get To India

how to become a yoga teacher in india 3

If you are wanting to become a yoga instructor in India, you can also find a job when you’re out there!

Some ways to do this are:

  • Networking with other yoga teachers
  • Using social media, e.g. posting to tell your followers that you are in India looking for a teaching job
  • Physical job advert posters/ flyers
  • Word-of-mouth

This opens you up to a lot more opportunities since not all yoga teacher jobs in India will be advertised online.

However, you should make sure that you are able to financially sustain yourself for at least a few weeks when you arrive.

This ensures that you can cover your costs of living before you receive your first salary, or if it takes you longer than you anticipate to find a job.

Before You Go!

Now that you know how to become a yoga instructor in India you can put our advice into practice.

The first step in pursuing this exciting career venture is to earn a Level 3 Diploma in Teaching Yoga! Through completing this qualification, you will be officially recognised as a certified instructor and can take your practice on the go!

Remember, you can download our free course prospectus to learn more about this qualification!

In the fitness industry kettlebell training has grown in popularity. As a result, you may question how to become a certified kettlebell instructor.

Throughout this article, we’ll discuss how to become a kettlebell instructor by discussing:

Before we begin, did you know you can begin your kettlebell instructor career with a Personal Trainer Diploma? You can also learn about the full range of courses we offer by downloading our 2025 course prospectus.

Step 1- Understanding The Role Of A Kettlebell Instructor

how to become a certified kettlebell instructor 1

Your journey to become a kettlebell instructor begins by understanding the definition of the position and the responsibilities associated with the role.

First, a kettlebell instructor teaches kettlebell-based group fitness classes. Within the role, they’re responsible for many tasks, including:

  • Organising and conducting classes
  • Motivating class members
  • Tracking and assisting class members’ progress

To carry out these responsibilities effectively, you’ll need to possess the following skills:

  • Confidence-this is essential to controlling the groups of students you teach since it shows your expertise and increases the likelihood of people following your instructions.
  • Ability to clearly explain complex movements-this will allow you to physically and verbally demonstrate kettlebell movements to either beginners or experienced kettlebell enthusiasts.
  • Motivation-this can help encourage beginners to gain confidence in performing kettlebell exercises with words of encouragement.
  • Organisation-this can help you structure warm-ups, main components and cooldowns of a class to optimise people’s performance.

You can find employment as a kettlebell instructor by seeking employment through a fitness company or working in a self-employed position.

We’ll explore your career options in step 4 later but first, let’s discuss the type of qualifications you need so you can understand how to become a kettlebell instructor.

Step 2- Qualifications Required To Become A Kettlebell Instructor

how to become a kettlebell instructor uk 1

After learning the responsibilities of a kettlebell instructor, you’ll need to learn how to become certified.

There are three qualifications to help with your development, these are:

  • Level 2 Gym Instructor
  • CPD Kettlebell Training
  • Level 3 Personal Trainer

Let’s explore these qualifications in more detail and how they can benefit your development as a kettlebell instructor.

A Level 2 Gym Instructor Starts Your Journey To Become A Kettlebell Instructor

how to become a kettlebell instructor uk 5

A level 2 Gym Instructor Qualification is essential to get a job as a fitness instructor, without one, a gym or leisure centre won’t be able to employ you.

This allows you the opportunity to become a group fitness instructor and gain experience running classes with large numbers of people that will complement your future kettlebell classes.

It’s important to recognise this qualification as the first step onto the fitness career ladder. As you’ll read later, employers want to employ staff who can provide a wide range of services.

A CPD In Kettlebell Training Is Beneficial When Becoming A Kettlebell Instructor

how to become a certified kettlebell instructor 4

After becoming qualified as a personal trainer, you will have a strong understanding of fitness. However, to become a successful kettlebell instructor, it’s a good idea to gain specialist knowledge.

OriGym’s kettlebell instructor course is CIMSPA-endorsed and Ofqual-regulated, so you can confidently apply for jobs!

OriGym’s CPD in Kettlebell Instructing can help you become an expert by teaching you:

  • The history of kettlebell training
  • Benefits of kettlebell training
  • How to perform and identify kettlebell movements
  • How to plan and deliver kettlebell classes for beginner, intermediate and advanced students

We offer a kettlebell instructor training course at OriGym, so you can begin your journey as a kettlebell instructor right away!

The only prerequisite to enrol on this CPD course is to have a Level 2 Gym Instructing qualification.

A Level 3 Personal Trainer Qualification Can Increase Your Employment Prospects

how to become a certified kettlebell instructor 2

The next step in your fitness career journey may involve achieving a Level 3 Personal Training qualification.

A level 3 qualification compared to the level 2 qualification, gives you greater freedom to work with clients, including:

  • The ability to train clients on a one-to-one basis
  • Creating a tailored training plan
  • Helping clients achieve specific exercise goals

This qualifies you to work as a personal trainer, which is essential to train clients one to one, such as this job advertised by Gokay Fitness:

how to become a kettlebell instructor uk 4

After you’ve read this job description, you’ll see that they require the successful applicant to be Level 3 qualified to work as a personal trainer/class instructor.

The qualification can act as a stepping stone to achieving the goal of becoming a successful kettlebell instructor.

Employers rarely hire kettlebell instructors exclusively but instead, look for qualified personal trainers.

Without a Level 3 qualification, you simply won’t fit these criteria as it will help teach kettlebell classes as well as provide a strong foundation in fitness knowledge.

A level 3 qualification can also help increase your career opportunities, helping you stand out from the compeition. This means you’ll have a greater earning potential as you’ll possess a greater range of skills and the ability to offer more services.

how to become a kettlebell instructor uk 10

Most employers will require that your qualification is accredited and regulated by the relevant bodies indicating a course meets the industry standards of education in fitness.

This means that the course is endorsed by CIMSPA (the UK’s professional body for health and fitness) and regulated by an Ofqual-approved awarding body, such as Focus Awards.

OriGym’s Personal Training Diploma gives you both your Level 2 and 3 qualifications in as little as four weeks. This is a great option if you want to understand how to become a kettlebell instructor in the UK quickly!

Keeping in theme with our article, here’s some more related to kettlebell training:

Step 3- Kettlebell Instructor Coverage Is Required

how to become a certified kettlebell instructor 8

Once you’ve achieved your qualifications to become a kettlebell instructor, you’ll then need to secure insurance.

There are different forms of insurance that you’ll need to purchase to make sure you’re covered for all types of claims, these include:

  • Public Liability Insurance
  • Public Indemnity
  • Personal Accident Insurance
  • Loss of Earnings Insurance
  • Equipment Insurance

Let’s explore these in further detail to understand what they cover and the costs associated with each one.

Public Liability Insurance Can Help You Against Any Claims Made Against You

how to become a kettlebell instructor 1

Public liability insurance is the first form of insurance you should secure as a kettlebell instructor.

This will provide you with financial coverage should a claim be levied against you, in the event you:

  • Injure a gym member who is participating in your class
  • Damage or loss of property owned by a gym member

In the event one of these scenarios occurs, public liability insurance can assist you with replacing the property or any legal costs associated with a claim.

You might, for example, be training people in a kettlebell class and a member of the group drops a kettlebell on their foot and injures themselves.

This person, as a result, could claim you as their injury happened whilst attending one of your classes.

Accidents can occur, no matter how hard you try to create a safe environment for your class members.

You can suffer a financial setback without public liability insurance, which might harm your capacity to succeed in business or your profession. Nonetheless, you will be protected against such lawsuits if you have public indemnity insurance.

AXA Insurance is an insurance provider you may want to secure public liability insurance, as they’ll be able to cover you for the following:

how to become a certified kettlebell instructor 6

Once you’ve secured your public liability insurance you’ll need to secure public indemnity insurance next.

Public Indemnity Insurance Can Help You Against Claims For Incorrect Advice You Give

how to become a kettlebell instructor 2

Indemnity insurance covers claims made by gym members who feel they received poor advice that resulted in injury or illness.

This type of insurance will apply to any kettlebell classes you instruct but also to any personal training clients you work with too.

Claims could be made against you if you worked as a kettlebell trainer and:

  • You demonstrated incorrect kettlebell exercises for a class member to carry out at home which later resulted in their injury.

If you worked as a PT, this type of personal trainer insurance would be useful if you:

  • Gave poor advice on how to perform an exercise
  • Didn’t help a client achieve their fitness goals based on the tips you have them

The following scenarios would be covered with Hiscox‘s: professional indemnity insurance when you read what they provide:

how to become a kettlebell instructor uk 9

Regardless of the professional knowledge you may possess, providing inaccurate advice to clients is always possible.

Professional indemnity insurance provides you with financial coverage should a client or gym member claim you, following the advice you give them.

Personal Accident Insurance Protects You In Case You’re Unable To Work

how to become a kettlebell instructor uk 13

Whilst it’s professional to secure insurance in the event a client or gym member is injured under your supervision, it’s also important to get coverage for yourself.

This is why it’s important to have personal accident insurance which covers you in the event you become ill or suffer an injury whilst you’re working.

This type of insurance will cover any small injuries you suffer that temporarily place you out of work but also long-term injuries that affect your ability to work.

In the event you’re injured, it will cover treatments and rehabilitation costs associated with your recovery.

You may, for example, twist your ankle whilst performing a kettlebell exercise which temporarily prevents you from working.

Following a consultation with your doctor, you may need physiotherapy on the affected area for the next couple of months to assist with your recovery.

This could prove costly if you don’t have this insurance, however, with it, your physiotherapy costs will be covered including any treatments and medication you might need. The cost of this insurance will vary between insurance providers and your policy.

Insure4Sport’s personal accident insurance, for example, can provide you with cover for up to £50,000 including the cost of treatment and rehabilitation:

how to become a kettlebell instructor 6

Nobody is immune to experiencing an accident that prevents them from working. In the event the worst should happen, personal accident insurance can support you.

Loss Of Earnings Insurance Provides You With An Income In The Event You Can’t Earn Your Salary

how to become a kettlebell instructor 3

If you experience an injury working as a kettlebell instructor, there could be a period where you’re unable to work whilst your recovery.

As a result, this will impact your ability to earn money as you may be out for several weeks until you’re fit to return to work, which the loss of earnings will cover you for.

You may, for example, experience a serious injury during a kettlebell class, which after an appointment with your doctor, advises you to rest for several weeks at home.

This could have financial consequences for you as without loss of earnings insurance, you could find yourself without money to cover your basic needs.

Loss of earnings insurance can assist with costs like these, providing you with financial coverage until you’re able to return to work.

Insure4Sport, for example, can provide you with a year of loss of earnings insurance, should you find out yourself injured and out of work:

how to become a certified kettlebell instructor

Despite your best efforts, accidents can happen that have a financial impact on you. For this reason, you must have personal accident coverage.

Equipment Insurance For Helps Provide Coverage For Equipment You Need To Carry Out Your Duties

become a kettlebell instructor 1

If you’re working in a self-employed capacity that requires you to use your equipment, you’ll benefit from purchasing equipment insurance.

This form of insurance covers you in the event your equipment is lost, stolen or damaged. It can provide coverage for your kettlebells or a laptop you use for work, for example:

  • When you’re running a kettlebell class from your place of business and you discover that your kettlebells have been stolen.
  • Your laptop is damaged whilst preparing for an upcoming class

There is no fixed rate for this type of insurance as providers will offer different prices to purchase equipment loss insurance.

This will be determined by the value of the equipment they can insure or whether they offer replacement equipment too.

Insure4sport, for example, offers to replace any equipment that you own that is valued up to £2,500 each:

how to become a kettlebell instructor uk 3

Before purchasing this equipment insurance, it’s important to make sure the policy you’re looking for covers the costs of your equipment and the ability to have it replaced.

Step 4- What Positions You Can Undertake As A Kettlebell Instructor

how to become a kettlebell instructor uk 11

Once you’ve secured the correct insurance to operate in the fitness industry, you’ll then need to find a position as a kettlebell instructor.

Since kettlebell instructors are rarely sought after, it’s difficult to provide an average salary for this position, so it might be worth estimating your earning potential around a fitness instructor position.

According to Indeed, the average hourly rate for a fitness instructor is £14.95, with the potential to earn a maximum of £30.25 per house.

There are different types of positions you can undertake to become a kettlebell instructor, these include:

  • Working as a personal trainer who specialises in kettlebell training
  • Running a kettlebell training club or gym
  • Holding online kettlebell classes

Let’s look at these job titles in further detail.

Working As An Employee Full-Time At A Gym

become a kettlebell instructor 2

If you’re looking to work in a gym or fitness centre as a kettlebell instructor, you’ll likely be working as a fitness instructor who can deliver classes.

As we mentioned previously, if you’re searching for kettlebell instructor jobs only, you’ll have a hard time finding an employer looking to recruit an employee for this sole purpose.

However, if you search for fitness instructor jobs, you’ll find that employers are looking for experienced fitness instructors who can deliver other services to members, including kettlebell classes.

If you lived in Birkenhead, for example, you could apply to become a fitness instructor at PureGym, allowing you to deliver kettlebell classes, amongst others:

how to become a kettlebell instructor uk 2

If you were to apply for this type of position, it’s important to make sure you’re qualified in others of fitness, we’ll touch up this in step 5.

The average salary of a fitness instructor is £23,289 according to Glassdoor which is a great starting salary for a fitness professional in entering the industry.

Start A Kettlebell Training Club Or Gym

Starting your kettlebell training club or gym is a great way for you to work as a kettlebell instructor.

This will give you the freedom to deliver kettlebell classes that you believe will be beneficial to the members who join your club or gym.

Jason Elliott at Personal Trainer Wirral, for example, delivers kettlebell training as a separate service to his work as a personal trainer:

how to become a kettlebell instructor 4

This is a brand you could emulate, providing kettlebell classes as stand-alone sessions whilst offering personal training as a separate service.

Starting your kettlebell training club or your own business is no easy challenge and would need several years of experience in the industry. This is because you’ll need to be confident in delivering instructions but also competent in other elements that come with starting a business such as finances, administration and marketing.

Offer Online Kettlebell Classes To Maximise Your Earning Potential

Another role you could undertake as a kettlebell instructor is by offering online classes. It’s becoming increasingly popular as more clients want to train from their homes.

Offering online kettlebell classes allows you to expand your client base as you’ll be able to train people who may not be able to travel to your place of business which helps increase your client retention rates.

Exclusively offering online kettlebell classes allows you to work in the area of fitness that you are passionate about and identify a gap in the market that you can cater to.

Bath Kettlebell Bootcamp, for instance, offer a 4-week training programme that people can attend online:

how to become a kettlebell instructor uk

It’s also possible for you to adopt this type of programme, not only will it provide a stable income but it will also provide guaranteed numbers for your online classes.

Step 5- Kettlebell Instructor Career Progression To Maximise Your Earning Potential

how to become a certified kettlebell instructor 3

After you’ve settled into your role as a kettlebell instructor, you’ll want to start to find ways to maximise your earning potential. Below we’ve listed some of the opportunities available to you.

Gaining Additional CPD Qualifications Can Help You Earn More

Alongside your CPD in kettlebell instructing there are some other OriGym CPD courses that you could enrol on including the likes of Medicine Ball Training.

Whilst not directly related to kettlebell training, a lot of the skills you’ll learn in these courses are certainly transferable to kettlebell training.

These kinds of classes can also involve a mix of different strength training and cardio exercises performed in a circuit, with rests in between each set of exercises. This subsequently means that instructors who can teach circuit classes are very in demand!

how to become a certified kettlebell instructor 7

CPD courses can also increase your chances of landing a job in a gym or fitness centre. As we’ve previously mentioned, you will rarely be exclusively teaching kettlebell classes.

Most gyms will be looking for someone who can teach a variety of classes, so if you’re able to complete additional CPD courses, you are immediately more appealing to an employer!

If you’re self-employed this would also be a great opportunity to offer additional services to increase your business’ revenue!

Complete A Level 4 Course

how to become a kettlebell instructor 5

If you’re looking to offer services for a niche market in the industry, you may want to complete a nutrition course with OriGym.

This would be a great opportunity to learn a new set of skills that would give you a competitive edge in the job market but crucially, if you’re self-employed it also creates a new revenue stream.

After you’ve learned about meal prep and planning and nutrition guidelines, you could offer nutrition advice and guidance for clients, alongside your kettlebell services.

Ben Malton, for instance, offers something similar. Alongside his PT services, he offers dietary services to increase his revenue:

Whether you’re a newly qualified yoga teacher or own your own studio, email marketing is one of the most effective ways of promoting your business and gaining new students.

But with so much to consider, it can be hard to know where to start! That’s why we’ve made the ultimate step-by-step guide to yoga email marketing, covering:

Before we get started, enhance your career as a yoga teacher with OriGym’s Level 4 yoga teacher training course! Enquire today, or find out more information by downloading our free course prospectus here.

Step 1: Determine The Goal For Your Yoga Email Marketing

yoga studio email marketing 3

Before you start designing the content of your emails, you should first outline the goal of your yoga email marketing campaign.

Email marketing is a powerful marketing strategy for yoga teachers that involves sending email newsletters to a large group of people to promote your business and services.

Whilst this is the overall aim of email marketing, you should try to specify exactly what you want to achieve from it, such as:

  • To gain new students, i.e. get them to sign up to a class or buy a membership
  • To promote an event you are holding e.g. a retreat or workshop
  • To increase brand awareness
  • To share news about your business e.g. adding a new class to your timetable
  • To promote offers and promotions e.g. a special membership discount for the new year
  • To distribute information to gain authority in the yoga industry
  • To sell a product e.g. merchandise

Taking time to think about your goal first will then determine the decisions you make when creating your email marketing campaign.

For example, say your goal is to promote a new student intro offer for your studio.

This will dictate things such as the type of content you create, as it would need to be focused on including information about the event.

It would also help you ensure that you only send your emails to the relevant audience. In this case, you would only want to send your emails to people who are not already students, as here you are targeting new customers.

Having a clear goal in mind also helps you to track the progress of your yoga instructor email marketing campaign.

This is because it will determine which data to look at when tracking your campaign’s success.

To take the same example, if your goal is to promote a new customer offer, you would look at how many sales of that offer came from your emails.

We explain how to track your campaign in more detail in the ‘Tips’ section at the end of this article!

Step 2: Decide on the Software You’ll Use To Create Your Yoga Instructor Email Marketing

Once you have determined your goals, the next step is to select the software you want to use to create your yoga email marketing.

Using a dedicated email marketing software makes it a lot easier and will save you time!

With so many options out there, it can be hard to know which is the best software for your needs.

To make the choice a little easier, here are some important factors to consider when choosing your email marketing software:

#1- A Good Yoga Email Marketing Software Has Customisable Templates

A major feature of a good email marketing software is that it offers a good range of customisable email templates.

Using a template will save you lots of time and effort, compared to designing an email completely from scratch. You can then simply customise the template by filling it in with your own text and images.

It also makes your emails look more sleek and professional, helping increase their success.

For example, popular email marketing software MailChimp has over 100 different templates to choose from, making it likely that you will find one to suit your needs.

Some types of templates that are useful for email marketing for yoga studios and teachers are:

  • Welcome emails
  • Event promotion
  • Newsletter/ information-based emails

Whichever software you choose, you should ensure that the templates are easy-to-use and customise.

You should also watch out for additional fees. Most softwares will include access to templates, but some may require you to pay extra for a wider range of templates!

#2- Your Yoga Email Marketing Software Should Have Segmentation Options

email marketing for yoga teachers 2

In email marketing, segmentation is where you can group your subscribers into smaller sections so that you can target them more effectively.

You can then send different emails to different types of subscribers, or only send an email to a specific group depending on the nature of the email.

For example, say you are sending an email about a new prenatal yoga class you are starting.

In this case, you could use segmentation to only send your email to your female subscribers, since a prenatal yoga class would not be applicable to men!

This increases your yoga instructor email marketing engagement, as people are more likely to engage with an email if it is relevant to them, ultimately leading to more sales.

If you send irrelevant emails to the wrong demographics, they are more likely to ignore the email and even start to ignore any future emails that you send them.

This would decrease engagement with your emails and reduce the success of your campaign.

Again, the level of segmentation you can do may vary depending on how much you are willing to pay for your yoga email marketing software.

For example, below are the pricing options for MailChimp:

yoga instructor email marketing 2

As you can see, With the free and second lowest price option, you don’t get access to ‘Predictive’ or ‘Advanced’ segmentation.

It is therefore worth looking into how advanced you want your segmentation to be, and factoring this into your budget.

#3- Automation Is An Important Feature Of Email Marketing For Yoga Instructors Software

yoga studio email marketing 6

Another important feature to look out for in yoga instructor email marketing software is automation.

Automation means that the software will automatically send a certain email to subscribers when triggered by a particular factor.

This means that you don’t have to remember to manually send individual emails for things such as:

  • Reminding students about an upcoming class
  • Class booking confirmation
  • Purchase receipts
  • Sending a welcome email to a new student
  • Sending them a special offer on a their birthday
  • Reminding them if they need to renew their membership

Using automation features for these things helps you to keep your subscribers engaged and generate leads, since you will be sending them emails that are completely tailored to them.

So, when choosing a software for your yoga email marketing, make sure that it has a good automation function.

#4- Good Yoga Email Marketing Software Allows You To Run A/B Testing

yoga studio email marketing 5

A more advanced but very useful feature to look out for in an email marketing software is A/B Testing.

In marketing, A/B testing is the process of testing different combinations of variables to see which gives the best result.

In relation to yoga email marketing, you would use A/B testing to test out different email ideas by sending different versions to different audiences.

You can then see which version works best, by looking at how many people receive, open and engage with the email.

Some factors you can test with A/B testing are:

  • Subject line
  • Use of images and colours
  • Call To Action button
  • The time of day you send the email

For example, you could send two of the same email, but each with a different subject line. You could then see which email was opened the most, helping you decide which subject line is the most effective in getting people to open the email.

Some software will offer A/B testing for free, whilst others may limit you to a certain amount of testing before you have to pay an additional fee or subscription.

With these 4 factors in mind, some of the best software for email marketing for yoga studios are:

Step 3: Build Your Subscribers List For Your Yoga Email Marketing

email marketing for yoga teachers 3

Now that you have chosen your software, it’s now time to start building up your subscribers list.

In other words, you need to start collecting the email addresses of the people you want to send your emails to.

The best way to do this is by creating a ‘lead magnet’.

A lead magnet is simply when you offer an incentive to encourage people in exchange for providing their contact details- such as their phone number and email address.

You can then use these contact details to send them your yoga email marketing campaign and ultimately turn them into paying customers.

Lead magnets are the best way to get subscribers because people are much more willing to give you their contact information if they get something in return!

Some of the types of things you can offer in exchange for their email addresses are:

      • A free yoga sequence or guide
      • A free yoga eBook
      • Access to a video class
      • A special offer or discount
      • A free class

As well as being an incentive to gather contact information, offering these kinds of helpful resources boosts your credibility and authority as a skilled and knowledgeable yoga teacher!

The most common place to use a lead magnet is on your website or landing page (a page where users are directed from another source such as social media).

For example, this yoga teacher has included a CTA button on her homepage, encouraging users to download a ‘free home yoga space and prop guide’.

yoga email marketing

yoga email marketing 9

yoga email marketing 8

Users are then directed to a page where they need to enter their email address in order to receive the guide.

You can then use this to send them further emails in the future promoting your business, and they could then turn into a paying customer!

In this case, the lead magnet is integrated as a static feature on the website.

You can also include the lead magnet as a pop up box, such as in the example below:

yoga studio email marketing

This will appear to users when they scroll down to a certain point on a page.

Again, this yoga teacher has included an incentive (“Be the first to know about offers and exciting news”) to encourage users to provide their email address.

The more information you get from users, the more you can send them emails that are tailored to their individual needs.

For example, this yoga teacher asks users to state where they have practised with them before.

yoga email marketing 7

This means that he can then send different emails to subscribers that are relevant for their location.

For example, if someone has selected London, then he can make sure to only send them information about his classes in London, rather than all other locations around the world.

However you choose to integrate your lead magnet, you should ensure that you are using people’s data correctly in your yoga email marketing.

Step 4: Plan And Create The Content of Your Yoga Email Marketing

yoga studio email marketing 7

Now that you have your subscribers, you are now ready to start planning and creating the actual content of your yoga email marketing.

The content you send will depend on the type of subscribers you are targeting.

For example, the content of a welcome email for new subscribers will be different to an email you send to an existing customer reminding them of their class booking.

Whichever kind of email you are sending, some key features of successful yoga instructor email marketing content are:

  • An engaging subject line
  • A clear heading
  • Persuasive language
  • A Call To Action
  • Clickable links and images
  • Links to your social media channels

With this in mind, here are some of the most effective types of content you can use in email marketing for yoga studios and teachers:

Welcome Email For Your New Yoga Students

email marketing for yoga teachers

This is perhaps the most important type of email you will send, as it is where you will make a first impression with your new students!

As we discussed earlier, this is a type of ‘automation’ you can set up within email marketing software, so that every new subscriber receives a welcome email.

By contacting them straight away, you are keeping people engaged with your business as well as influencing whether they engage with your future emails or not.

In other words, if you have a strong welcome email, this will ensure that people keep opening your emails and engaging with your business in general.

When creating a welcome email, if you promised an incentive in your lead magnet, make sure to provide it!

Now that the subscriber has what they signed up for, you can then keep their attention and promote your business.

The best way to do this is by using a Call To Action (CTA). This is something that prompts the reader to take a specific action.

This is particularly important for email marketing for yoga studios, as this is where you would prompt people to sign up to their first class, or to purchase a membership.

However, if you are an individual yoga teacher, you may also want to take a more personal approach to your welcome email.

You could write your welcome email in a more conversational tone, such as this welcome email from a yoga instructor:

yoga email marketing 6

As you can see, she has used the welcome email as a way to introduce herself to new subscribers. This makes her seem friendly and approachable, which is an important trait of a good yoga teacher and sets the precedent for the rest of her emails.

However, you should still make sure that your email is ultimately focused on generating leads and sales by including a CTA.

In the example above, after introducing herself, she then includes clear CTA buttons that will generate leads to her website!

yoga email marketing 5

Make Announcements And Promote Upcoming Events

When it comes to email marketing for yoga studios and teachers, one of the best types of content to include in your emails is announcements or news.

You would target this kind of email to existing students, as a way to inform them about things such as:

  • Adding a new class to your timetable
  • Announcing a yoga workshop or event
  • Announcing information such as a class time change, venue change etc.
  • Features in the press

For example, below is an email from a yoga studio promoting an upcoming yoga workshop:

yoga email marketing 4

yoga email marketing 3

As you can see, they have given clear information about the workshops (time, date, place, cost), as well as a brief description of the event.

Most importantly, they have included a Call To Action (“Book your spot here”).

This is essential for converting the email from merely informational to generating leads to help you make money as a yoga teacher!

Promote A Special Offer Or Discount

As well as events, yoga email marketing is also a great way to promote a special offer or discount you are running.

In terms of automation, this kind of email would be targeted at existing customers as well as new ones, and would cover any demographic.

For example, this yoga studio has sent an email about a special offer on a new class.

yoga email marketing 2

yoga instructor email marketing

As you can see, they have used an engaging subject line, “Fancy 20% off yogis?”. This immediately tells people what the email is about, but also encourages them to open it to find out what the discount is for.

They have also included a Call To Action button- “Book Sunset Yoga Now”. Again, this ensures that the email is not just informational but also converts into leads, making it a great way to get more yoga students to your classes!

Send Out A Yoga Newsletter

email marketing for yoga teachers 5

As well as specific promotions and offers, one of the most effective types of yoga email marketing is to send out a yoga newsletter.

A newsletter is a regular email that you send to all subscribers, usually on a weekly or monthly basis.

There are many different types of approaches you can take to creating a newsletter.

The most common purpose of sending a regular newsletter is as a means of keeping your subscribers up to date with any news or information about your classes.

For example, in terms of yoga email marketing for yoga studios, you could send out a regular newsletter with information such as new class announcements.

When it comes to email marketing for yoga instructors, a newsletter can be a great way to show your personality, educate and inform your subscribers.

Some types of content you could include in your newsletter are:

  • Student testimonials
  • Answering questions from your students
  • Highlights from your yoga social media
  • Educational content, e.g. breaking down yoga poses, explaining aspects of yoga philosophy etc.
  • Product recommendations
  • Healthy yogic food recipes

So, some benefits of sending out a regular newsletter to your subscribers are:

  • Act as a reminder for your business/services by regularly appearing in their inbox
  • Drive traffic to your website or landing page
  • Keep them up-to-date with offers and promotions
  • Build a rapport and sense of community with your subscribers. This will make them feel included and want to stay involved in becoming or continue to be a customer.
  • Present yourself as a knowledgeable and authoritative yoga teacher. Including educational content and resources in your newsletter increases your credibility as a yoga studio or teacher.

It also gives potential students an insight into what they can expect from your classes, which could then lead them to sign up to a class and become a paying customer!

Here is a great example of a newsletter from a yoga teacher that incorporates many of the features we have discussed.

yoga instructor email marketing 9

yoga instructor email marketing 8

As you can see, they have written their newsletter in a personal and conversational tone. This gives her subscribers an insight into her life, making her seem more ‘real’ and relatable.

She has also included internal links throughout. For example, clicking on the words “inhale, exhale” directs users to her blog post on breathing exercises:

yoga instructor email marketing 6

This therefore means that the newsletter is not just educational and informative, but also helps generate traffic to her website.

She has also included more direct Calls To Action throughout the newsletter, such as when she promotes an upcoming retreat she is holding:

yoga instructor email marketing 7

As you can see, she has used the newsletter as an opportunity to promote an event and generate leads to sign up to her retreat.

Email Marketing For Yoga Instructors: 3 Expert Tips

Now that you know how to create your yoga email marketing newsletters, here are 3 top tips to ensure that you get the most out of your campaigns!

Tip #1- Combine Your Yoga Email Marketing With Your Social Media

Along with email marketing, social media is one of the most important digital marketing strategies for yoga teachers you should be utilising.

Combining the two therefore makes for a very powerful marketing strategy!

There are two main ways that you can integrate social media with your email marketing:

Add your social media buttons to your emails

Most email marketing softwares will give you the option to insert links to your social media at the bottom of your emails.

These will usually show at the bottom of your email in the form of clickable graphics like this:

yoga studio email marketing 9

This therefore increases engagement both with your emails and with your social media channels.

Include a link to your newsletter subscription in your social media bio

As well as driving traffic from your emails to your social media, you can also gain new subscribers from social media.

The best way to do this is through including a link to subscribe to your newsletter in your Instagram bio.

You can do this through a Linktree feature, which allows you to include more than one link from your Instagram.

This is what this yoga teacher has done to direct people from her social media to her newsletter.

yoga instructor email marketing 5

yoga instructor email marketing 4

yoga instructor email marketing 3

As you can see, this takes the user to a lead magnet, where they can then enter their email address.

This is an easy way to gain subscribers and reach a wider audience with your yoga email marketing.

Tip #2- Monitor The Success Of Your Yoga Email Marketing Campaign

email marketing for yoga teachers 4

Once you have created your campaign, your work shouldn’t stop there!

After you’ve created and sent out your first yoga instructor email marketing campaign, you should make sure to track and monitor its progress.

You can then use this to see what works and what doesn’t in your email campaign. This will then help you to make changes to improve it to ensure that it is as successful as it can be.

Some important metrics to look for when analysing your campaign are:

  • Open rate– how many people have opened your email.
  • Click rate– how many people opened a link in the email, e.g. to your landing page
  • Bounce rate– when an email is rejected by the server and not delivered. This indicates that the email address does not exist.
  • Unsubscribe rate– how many people have unsubscribed from your email marketing. A sudden high unsubscribe rate would indicate that there was a problem with the content you sent out.
  • Device data– what device people are opening your emails on, i.e. a smartphone or a laptop.
  • Spam rate– the amount of times your email is reported as a spam, i.e. sent to someone’s spam inbox.

Most email marketing software will allow you to easily track these things on an analytics dashboard.

For example, this is what MailChimp’s dashboard looks like:

yoga studio email marketing 8

Based on this data, you can then run A/B testing on your campaigns. As we mentioned in Step 2, this is an important feature to look out for when choosing your email marketing software.

Say you notice that there has been a decrease in your email click rate, meaning that people aren’t clicking on the links in your emails.

You could then experiment with changing certain features of your emails to see what is causing this low click rate.

For example, you could try changing the placement, colour or copy of your CTA button to see if this encourages people to click on it more.

If your click rate is still low, then

You can keep making these changes until you see an improvement in your click rate!

Tip #3- Plan Your Future Yoga Email Marketing Strategy

email marketing for yoga teachers 6

As well as tracking the success of your current campaigns, our final tip for email marketing for yoga instructors is to also plan ahead for your next campaigns.

This ensures that your email campaigns remain consistent and that you keep making money as a yoga teacher!

One of the best ways to do this is to set objectives.

These should be quantifiable and have a clear time frame for when you want to achieve them.

For example, you could decide that you want to reach a certain open rate within 3 months.

Having clear objectives in mind will then make it easier to track your progress, as you can keep referring back to them.

It will also give you motivation and direction to keep optimising your yoga instructor email marketing to be the best it can be!

Some other things to bear in mind when planning your email marketing strategy are:

  • Keep up-to-date with current fitness trends and include these in your emails
  • Prepare your upcoming content, e.g. write the copy of your newsletter or gather the images you will use
  • Plan for events and special dates, e.g. plan a campaign for new year to capitalise on people making new year fitness goals, or yoga-specific dates such as World Yoga Day on 21st June!
  • Research your competitors, e.g. sign up to the newsletters of other yoga studios and teachers to see what they are doing with their email marketing and make sure yours is better!

Before you go!

Whether you’re already qualified or are looking to get into the industry, you will come across lots of different courses and qualifications. This could lead you to wonder, ‘is there a Level 5 personal trainer?’

In this article, we answer this and tell you all you need to know about the idea of a Level 5 personal trainer, covering:

Before we get started, if you’re not already, become a qualified personal trainer with OriGym today! Enquire now, or download our free course prospectus to browse the full range of courses we offer.

Is There A Level 5 Personal Trainer Qualification?

level 5 pt

If you are wondering, ‘what is a Level 5 personal trainer?’, let’s first establish what we mean by ‘levels’ in personal training.

As you may already know, in the UK, there are various levels of qualifications when it comes to personal training.

We have a whole article here explaining personal trainer levels and why they are important.

But in summary, there are 3 main levels of personal trainer qualifications:

  • Level 2 Fitness/Gym Instructor
  • Level 3 Personal Trainer
  • Level 4 Specialist Personal Trainer

As you can see, ‘Level 5 personal trainer’ is not on this list!

This is because in short, there is no such thing as a ‘Level 5 personal trainer course’ in the UK.

In fact, the highest level of personal trainer qualification you can get in the UK is a Level 4- which we will discuss later in this article.

The only place where you may see a Level 5 personal trainer course is in Ireland, where the ranking of personal training courses is slightly different to the UK.

As a rule of thumb, in Ireland, qualification levels are typically one above those in the UK.

So, a ‘Level 5 personal training course’ is equivalent to a Level 4 qualification in the UK.

As you can see from our Irish website below, here at OriGym we offer Level 5 personal trainer courses in Ireland. level 5 personal trainer 4

If this sounds confusing, don’t worry!

Here’s a quick summary of the PT course levels in the UK and Ireland:

level 5 pt 10

So if you were wondering, ‘is there a Level 5 personal trainer?’, the answer depends on if you are in the UK or Ireland.

  • In the UK– no, a Level 5 personal trainer does not exist!
  • In Ireland- yes, a Level 5 personal trainer course is the highest level of course you can take, and is the equivalent of a Level 4 PT course in the UK.

Ensure That Your Personal Trainer Qualification Is Regulated By Ofqual And Endorsed By CIMSPA

This idea of ‘levels’ in personal training qualifications is set by Ofqual in the UK.

Ofqual is the UK government body responsible for setting the frameworks for all vocational courses- including personal training.

This means that any two personal training courses from two different course providers- if they are regulated by Ofqual, should provide you with the same level of knowledge, skills and experience.

In fact, if a course is labelled by a ‘level’, this is a sign that it is Ofqual-regulated.

You can find a list of all Ofqual qualifications here.

As you can see, when we search for ‘Level 5 personal trainer’ courses and even filter the results to show ‘Level 5’ courses within the ‘Sport, leisure and recreation’ sector, the only results that appear are for other Level 5 courses, not personal training!

level 5 personal trainer 3

Again, this is because an Ofqual-regulated Level 5 personal trainer course does not exist in the UK!

However, the concept of a Level 5 personal trainer can exist in some capacity- which we will explain later in this article.

Similar to Ofqual, CIMSPA is a professional development body that is specific to the fitness industry and also provides regulation across personal training courses in the UK.

We have a whole guide to what CIMSPA is here for more information.

So, why is regulation and endorsement from Ofqual and CIMSPA important?

level 5 pt 3 level 5 pt 2

Choosing a course provider that checks both these boxes is essential when you come to find a job as a personal trainer.

That’s why here at OriGym, all of our personal trainer courses are Ofqual-regulated and CIMSPA-endorsement, giving you peace of mind that you are receiving the highest standard of teaching in the industry.

This is because it acts as a ‘stamp of approval’ to employers that you have been trained to the highest industry standards, and will therefore be a good personal trainer that will want to hire!

In summary, there is no such thing as a Level 5 personal trainer course in the UK. However, next, we’ll take you through the qualifications that do exist and why they are important.

Take A Level 2 Gym/Fitness Instructor Course Before Becoming A Level 5 Personal Trainer

level 5 pt 4

Before you can even think about the idea of being a Level 5 personal trainer, if you’re not already, you will need to become a qualified Level 2 fitness instructor.

To do this, you will need to take a Level 2 Fitness/Gym Instructor course.

This is an entry-level course meaning that you don’t need any prior qualifications or experience to enrol.

As we have mentioned, it is important that the course you choose is Ofqual-regulated, such as OriGym’s. This ensures that you receive the highest standards of teaching, covering topics such as:

  • Basic principles of exercise and fitness
  • Human anatomy and physiology
  • How to motivate and train groups and individuals
  • Health and safety
  • Introduction to the business and marketing side of the fitness industry

Upon qualifying, you will be able to work as a fitness or gym instructor in a gym.

A typical fitness instructor job description involves roles such as:

  • Monitoring fitness equipment
  • General gym maintenance, cleaning and safety
  • Teaching group exercise classes
  • Promoting gym classes and upselling memberships
  • Conducting gym inductions with new members

As you can see, this is reflected in the following job adverts for gym instructors:

level 5 personal trainer

level 5 personal trainer 9

level 5 personal trainer 8

One of the main things to remember about a Level 2 qualification is that you are not qualified to train clients on a one-to-one basis. For this, you need a Level 3 PT qualification, which we will explain next!

Enjoying this article so far? Here’s 3 more that we think you’ll love:

Take A Level 3 Personal Training Course Before Becoming A Level 5 Personal Trainer

level 5 pt 5

Once you have a Level 2 gym instructor qualification, you can then take a Level 3 personal training course.

This is the minimum requirement to work as a personal trainer in the UK.

To take this course, you will need to already have a Level 2 Gym Instructor qualification.

Again, it is important to ensure that your Level 3 personal trainer course is Ofqual-regulated, so that you cover the essential topics such as:

  • Advanced human anatomy and physiology
  • Principles of nutrition
  • Programming PT sessions
  • Delivering PT sessions
  • Demonstrating leadership
  • Business and marketing skills

As you can see, this builds on the topics that you will have covered in the Level 2 course.

The main difference between a fitness instructor and a personal trainer is that as a qualified PT, you will be able to train clients on a one-to-one basis.

As a personal trainer, you will typically only be working for a gym or fitness centre, usually on a contracted basis.

This means that you are more likely to have to work set hours each week, as well as having to fulfil other duties around the gym such as cleaning and maintenance.

This is reflected in the job adverts below for personal trainer roles in gyms:

level 5 personal trainer 6

level 5 personal trainer 7

Being a Level 3 personal trainer also gives you more employment options.

As well as working in a gym or fitness centre, you will also have the option to work on a freelance/self-employed basis, giving you more freedom over how much and where you work.

Some types of personal training you could pursue are:

  • Online personal training
  • Training clients in their homes
  • Outdoor personal training e.g. in parks
  • Training clients in your own home or home gym

Being a Level 3 personal trainer therefore gives you a lot more freedom and flexibility compared to Level 2!

Take A Level 4 Specialist Fitness Course Before Becoming A Level 5 Personal Trainer

level 5 pt 7

The final level before we discuss a Level 5 personal trainer is Level 4.

Once you are a qualified personal trainer, you can then further your education by taking a specialist Level 4 fitness course.

These are shorter and more specialised qualifications that focus on a particular area of personal training and fitness.

Here at OriGym, we offer the following Level 4 qualifications:

As you can see, there is a huge variety of Level 4 courses for wherever your interest and passion lies!

They are therefore a great way to find your niche as a personal trainer and specialise in a particular area of fitness that you are passionate about.

After taking a Level 4 course, you can then call yourself a ‘Level 4 personal trainer’ and will be qualified to take on a wider range of clients, which in turn means that you can increase your earnings!

Being a Level 4 personal trainer will also qualify you for a higher range and standard of personal training jobs. For example, check out the job advert below for a ‘master personal trainer’ at Virgin (a high-end and well-regarded gym chain in the world):

level 5 personal trainer 5

Having a Level 4 qualification would therefore open you up to these kinds of jobs, setting you apart from other applicants and helping you stand out as a personal trainer!

Does Having A Degree Make You A Level 5 Personal Trainer?

level 5 pt 8

If you were wondering, ‘what is a Level 5 personal trainer?’, we hope that you now understand that a Level 5 personal trainer course does not technically exist in the UK.

However, there is one instance where you may be able to call yourself a ‘Level 5 personal trainer’.

We have already discussed Level 2, Level 3 and Level 4 in relation to personal training.

According to the UK government, there are 9 levels of qualification in the UK, and the Level 5 qualifications are:

  • Diploma of higher education (DipHE)
  • Foundation degree
  • Higher national diploma (HND)
  • Level 5 award
  • Level 5 certificate
  • Level 5 diploma
  • Level 5 NVQ

With this in mind, if you have a relevant degree in a sports and fitness-related subject- such as a sports science degree, you could technically call yourself a Level 5 personal trainer.

However, if you want to become a personal trainer, a degree or Level 5 academic qualification is not necessary!

It is rare that you will find a personal trainer job that requires an academic degree.

Instead, employers will just want to see that you have at least a Level 3 personal trainer qualification from an Ofqual-regulated course provider.

They will also be more concerned with your practical skills and experience you have, which is ultimately what makes a good personal trainer!

What Is The Average Level 5 Personal Trainer Salary?

level 5 pt 9

One of the main reasons that people ask, ‘what is a Level 5 personal trainer?’ is that they think it means that they can earn a higher salary.

But as we have discussed, a Level 5 personal trainer does not exist in the UK. So this idea is simply not true!

Instead, we can say that being a Level 4 personal trainer (the highest level in the UK), can indeed mean that you increase your earnings as a PT.

This is because as a specialist personal trainer, you can offer more advanced services to your clients. This higher level of service then means that you can justify charging more for your sessions.

Similarly, if you want to work as a PT in a gym, having a Level 4 qualification will also help you earn more.

For example, Pure Gym states on their website that their PTs charge more depending on their experience and qualifications.

level 5 personal trainer 2

With this in mind, you can therefore earn the higher end of or more than the average personal trainer salary if you specialise and become a Level 4 PT!

Before you go!

Why You Should Use Google Ads As A Yoga Teacher

Before we get into how to use Google Ads for yoga teachers, let’s first establish exactly what they are.

Google Ads are a form of paid advertising that help a web page rank more highly in Google search results.

They work on a Pay Per Click (PPC) basis, meaning that businesses pay Google for the advertisement based on how many clicks their website receives.

Google Ads target a specific search term, or ‘keyword’.

We’ll cover how to find and target keywords in more detail later in this article. But for now, let’s see exactly what a Google ad looks like:

For example, let’s say someone is looking for a yoga class in Manchester and searches for the term ‘yoga manchester’, producing the following results:

yoga google ads

As you can see, the first result to come up is a business that has paid for a Google ad to appear at the top of the search results page. This is indicated by the word ‘Sponsored’ above the result.

This means that this business page appears above all other results- including the Google My Business page results.

yoga google ads 8

As you can see, these ‘organic’ results (i.e. they have not paid for Google ads) appear below the sponsored results.

yoga google ads 7

But why is appearing further up on the Google search results page so important?

The main reason is that using yoga Google ads is one of the best ways to increase lead generation.

In fact, results that appear on the first Google search results page generate 80% of traffic for that keyword.

In terms of Google ads themselves, they have a Click Through Rate (CTR) of 6%. This means that 6% of users who search for the keyword you are targeting will click on your page!

This can be explained by the fact that when people are searching for something- such as a yoga class in Manchester, they want to find what they are looking for as quickly as possible.

That is why they are more likely to click on a result that appears higher up on the search results page, rather than scrolling down further!

Another reason why yoga teacher Google ads are such an effective marketing tool is that by increasing traffic to your website, they increase your sales.

This is because the ‘conversion rate’ of Google ads is 4.2%. This means that 4.2% of users who click on a Google ad search result will then go on to make a sale on that page.

In the context of yoga teaching, this could be booking onto a class, or purchasing a product on your website.

In comparison, the conversion rate of organic search results (i.e. not Google ads) is just 0.55%.

This clearly demonstrates the power of Google ads for yoga instructors as a marketing tool!

Step 1- Create An Account To Start Making Yoga Google Ads

The first step in creating yoga teacher Google ads is to create a Google Ads account.

To do this, simply go to the Google Ads platform and click ‘Start Now’, and you will be guided through the process.

You will need a Google account (i.e. a Gmail email address) to set up Google Ads. If you don’t already have one, you can do this here.

Once you have a Google account, you can then click on ‘New Google Ads Account’.

yoga google ads 6

You will then be promoted to give other information about your business, such as your currency and billing information.

Step 2- Decide On The Right Kind Of Yoga Google Ad Campaign

yoga teacher google ads 2

Before you actually start creating your Google ads for yoga teachers, you should make sure to decide on the type of campaign you will create.

In advertising, a ‘campaign’ simply means an advertising strategy.

There are 5 main types of Google ad campaign:

  • Search campaign
  • Display campaign
  • Shopping campaign
  • Video campaign
  • App campaign

In this article, we will be discussing the first option: search campaigns.

As we have said, this type of advert is in the form of a sponsored search result.

This is the best option for Google ads for yoga instructors because when looking for a yoga class or studio, most people will search on Google. It is therefore worthwhile investing your time and money in targeting these people!

There are also 3 different options for how you can pay for your yoga Google ads:

  • Pay per click
  • Pay per impression
  • Pay per engagement

Just like for fitness Facebook ads, the best payment option to choose is the Pay Per Click (PPC) method.

This means that you will only pay Google when someone actually clicks on your website, making it the most cost-effective option.

We will cover exactly how this works in Step 5 of this article when you select your budget!

Step 3- Use The Keyword Planner To Find Keywords For Your Yoga Studio Google Ads

yoga studio google ads 10

The next step in creating Google ads for yoga teachers is to find the keywords you want to target.

Keywords are an important part of SEO (Search Engine Optimisation), as they are essentially the words that your target audience are typing into Google.

We have a whole guide here to yoga teacher SEO for more detail about how this works!

But in summary, keywords are words or phrases that you can target with your yoga Google ads. In other words, they are the words or phrases that users are searching on Google.

The best way to find your keywords for your yoga Google ads is by using the Google Keyword Planner.

The Google Keyword Planner is a free tool that helps you generate keywords for your business, and tells you:

  • The frequency of the search of that keyword, i.e. how many searches a keyword gets per month.
  • How much that keyword costs on average to target

You can therefore use the tool to search for keywords with high average searches and decide which to target based on your budget.

So, how do you use the Google Keyword Planner?

Firstly, you will be asked whether you want to discover new keywords, or look at existing keywords to see how well they are ranking.

yoga google ads 4

If you’re just starting out with yoga studio Google ads, it is best to select the option to discover new keywords.

This is because this allows you to search various keywords on a trial and error basis to find ones that are both relevant to your business and within your budget.

Let’s say you own a yoga studio in Liverpool and want to find keywords to target with your ads.

You could start by searching the Keyword Planner for keywords such as:

  • Yoga studio Liverpool
  • Yoga liverpool
  • Yoga teacher liverpool
  • Yoga classes liverpool

Screenshot – keyword planner showing a search for these keywords. Similar to this one (but with different keywords)

As you can see, the tool will show you both:

  • ‘Keywords you provided’- exact matches from the keywords you provided
  • ‘Keyword ideas’- suggestions for other related keywords based on the ones you provided

Then, for all keywords found, the main columns you will need to look at are:

  • ‘Average monthly searches’ – this will tell you which keywords are searched the most
  • ‘Top of page bid (low range)’ and ‘Top of page big (high range)’ – this tells you how much you can expect to pay-per-click for targeting that keyword with your yoga Google ads.

You can then use this information to write a list of keywords that are both relevant to your business and fit your budget.

This list is what you will use when creating your yoga Google Ads, which we will discuss next!

Step 4- Design Your Yoga Studio Google Ads

Now that you have a list of keywords that you want to target with your yoga Google ads, you are now ready to start the process of designing your ads!

There are 8 main steps involved:

  1. Select Your Yoga Google Ads Campaign Objective

The first step in setting up your yoga Google ads is to select the objective for your campaign.

This is important as it helps Google determine things such as the audience you want to target and how to spend your budget.

As you can see, you will presented with a number of options:

google ads yoga 2

The best option to choose here is ‘Leads’. This is what will get users to visit your website and take an action like signing up to a class and ultimately help you earn money!

You will then be asked to select the type of ad you want to create.

google ads yoga 4

As we have discussed, the option to choose here is a ‘Search’ campaign, as you are trying to get your website high up on the Google search results page.

You can then specify your goals further by telling Google how you want to achieve your objective.

google ads yoga 5

Here, we recommend selecting ‘Website visits’, as this is the aim of creating your yoga studio Google ads.

Finally, on this same page, you can enter the name of your campaign. This is just for your reference only, so something like ‘yoga’ is enough!

2- Select The Bid Strategy For Your Yoga Google Ads Campaign

The next stage of creating Google ads for yoga instructors is to tell Google how you want to pay for your ads- known as a ‘Bid Strategy’.

google ads yoga 6

There are a few different options for how to pay for your yoga Google ads. But here, we recommend selecting ‘Conversions’.

This means that you will only pay Google if someone clicks on your advert and turns into a lead.

You can then select a target CPA (‘cost per action’). This means that Google will try to only spend this amount of your budget (which you will set later in this process), on conversions from your ad.

3- Specify The Location For Your Yoga Google Ads

The next step in creating Google ads for yoga teachers is to select the location that you want your ads to appear in.

Google will then use this information to only show your ad to users in your target location.

This helps you ensure that your yoga Google ad is reaching your target audience. This makes it more likely that you will generate leads from your ad!

google ads yoga 7

google ads yoga 8

The location you choose will depend on the nature of your yoga business.

For example, if you are creating yoga studio Google ads, your business operates from a specific address.

You should therefore select your location to be within a certain radius of that address, so that you target people from that area who are likely to actually go to your studio and become paying customers.

After all, someone in London is unlikely to be looking for a yoga studio in Liverpool!

However, if you are an online yoga teacher, you can use a wider radius, as you are not limited by a physical location.

Here, you can also select the languages that you want your Google Ads to appear in.

4- Select The Keywords For Your Yoga Google Ads

Next, you will then be asked to add the keywords that you want your ads to target.

This is where you will use the keyword research you did using the Google Keyword Planner in Step 4!

yoga ads

5- Write Your Yoga Google Ads

Once you have completed these settings, it is now time to write the actual advert itself!

Below is an example of how we would write a Google ad for our yoga teacher training course page here at OriGym.

yoga ads 6

As you can see, this is where you write the text that will appear on the search result on Google.

It is therefore worth taking time to perfect this, as this is ultimately what will make users decide whether to click on your page or not!

You should therefore make sure to include some of your chosen keywords in the headlines and description text. This ensures that your page targets users searching for that keyword.

The headlines should describe what your business does, including information such as:

  • Your business name
  • Location
  • Yoga style e.g. hot yoga
  • Another unique selling point of your business, e.g. a female only studio, prenatal yoga etc.

The description should provide some more detail about your business and a Call To Action (CTA). This is a short phrase that encourages the user to take action.

Below is a great example of what to include in a yoga studio Google ad.

yoga teacher google ads 8

As you can see, it is clear what the studio offers (hot yoga) and where it is (Nottingham).

They have also given a brief description and a CTA (Join us today).

7- Set Your Budget For Your Yoga Google Ads Campaign

The next stage of creating Google ads for yoga instructors is to set the budget for your campaign.

Setting a budget for advertising and marketing is an important part of your yoga studio business plan.

You may be wondering, how much should a yoga teacher Google ads budget be?

Unfortunately, there is no concrete answer to this!

Your Google ads budget depends on lots of factors that will vary for every teacher or studio, such as:

  • How much you are spending on other marketing strategies (e.g. social media advertising, printed marketing materials). Considering this before you start creating your ads will help you determine how much you have to spend, ensuring that your budget isn’t too much or too little.
  • The size of your business. As your yoga business grows and you start earning more, you can of course afford to spend more than if you were just starting out.
  • The price for your chosen keyword(s). We will explain how to find this out using the Google Keyword Planner in Step 4.
  • How much your competitors are spending. You can use SEO tools such as Ahrefs to see how much your competitors are spending on keywords.

When creating your ads, Google will ask you to determine how much you want to spend on average each day.

You can choose from their recommended daily budgets, or manually set your own.

yoga ads 4

As you can see, this is an ‘average’ budget, meaning that Google will not strictly stick to this budget every day. This means that some days you may go over this budget, but it will be balanced out by going under budget another day.

When it comes to your budget for yoga Google ads, remember that it is completely scalable!

So whilst you may only make a small initial investment of a few pounds a day, as you start to see results and earn more, your budget can then increase too. This is what makes Google ads one of the best marketing tools for running a successful yoga studio or business.

8- Review And Publish Your Yoga Google Ads

Finally, you can now review your yoga Google ad to ensure that everything is correct before you make it live!

yoga ads 5

Once you are happy with everything, you can publish your ad and start to reap the rewards!

3 Key Tips For Creating Yoga Google Ads

Now that we’ve covered the basics of how to create yoga teacher Google ads, here are some top tips to maximise the success of your ads!

#1 – Use Google Analytics To Monitor How Your Yoga Teacher Google Ads Perform

yoga studio google ads

Once you have posted your ad, this doesn’t mean that your work is done!

After publishing your yoga Google ads, you should use Google Analytics to keep track of your campaign and monitor its progress.

Google Analytics is a free web analytics tool that tracks and reports statistics for websites for SEO and marketing purposes.

It tracks data on lots of aspects of your website. But for the purposes of creating Google ads for yoga teachers, Google Analytics can show you:

  • How many people are clicking on your ad
  • How long users stay on your page
  • How many leads your ad is generating, i.e. how many users are being converted into leads, enquiries or paying customers
  • What users do after they click your ad, i.e. the action they take on your page, such as making a purchase or submitting an enquiry form.

It is therefore a useful tool to find out what works and what doesn’t work for your Google ads. You can then use that information to make improvements to your ad to make them more effective, and ultimately make more money from them!

For example, you may find that users are clicking your page, but not turning into paying customers when they reach your page.

This may then lead you to redesign your website or landing page to include a clearer CTA, encouraging users to take an action such as signing up for a class or buying a membership.

You could then come back to Google Analytics and see if your changes have increased the amount of sales being made from your ad!

To get started with Google Analytics, you will need to create a Google Analytics account, which you can do here.

You will then need to link your Google Analytics account with your Google Ads account by navigating through the ‘Tools’ menu on your Google accounts page.

#2 – Use Both Short and Long-Tail Keywords In Your Yoga Google Ads

As we have said, keyword research is a vital part of creating yoga teacher Google ads.

When deciding on the keywords you are going to target with your ads, it is a good idea to include a variety of both specific and broad keywords.

As we will explain below, whilst broad keywords are important, there should be more specific keywords if you are just starting out with Google ads for yoga instructors.

Include A Few Broad (Short-Tail) Keywords In Your Yoga Studio Google Ads

yoga studio google ads 9

Also known as ‘short-tail keywords’, these are usually words or short phrases that cover broad and general topics.

Some examples of this for yoga Google ads are:

  • Yoga classes
  • Yoga near me
  • Yoga studio

Broad keywords such as these are useful because they technically allow you to reach a wider audience.

They have a higher search volume than more specific keywords, meaning that more people are searching for them each day, and so generate more traffic.

However for this same reason, short-tail keywords are much more competitive.

For example, the keyword ‘yoga classes’ applies to almost every yoga business in the world! It will therefore be very hard for your page to appear high up on the search results page for this keyword, particularly if your business is just starting out.

This competition then means that they are more expensive to target than long-tail keywords (which we will discuss next).

Another thing to consider about with short-tail keywords is that although they may generate more traffic, they actually lead to less conversions.

Short-tail keywords often don’t meet the intent of the user, i.e. they don’t satisfy what they are looking for. This is because since they are generally broad terms, they can have several different meanings for different users.

For example, take the short-term keyword ‘yoga class’.

This could have several different intents for each user, such as:

  • Someone looking for a yoga class near them
  • Someone looking for an online yoga class
  • A teacher wanting to know how to plan and structure a yoga class

It is therefore difficult to ensure that a short-tail keyword meets the intent of the user, meaning that they are less likely to click on your page.

Or if they do, they are less likely to stay on the page and turn into a sale, if the page doesn’t meet their intent.

So although short-tail keywords may generate more traffic, it is harder to convert this traffic into sales and ultimately harder to make money as a yoga teacher!

With this in mind, it is a good idea to target just a few short-tail keywords with your yoga Google ads, as your budget allows.

Focus On Specific (Long-Tail) Keywords When Creating Google Ads For Yoga Teachers

yoga studio google ads 6

Also known as ‘long-tail keywords’, these are usually more specific words or longer phrases.

They typically have a lower search volume than short-term keywords, since they are usually to meet a very particular user intent.

They may therefore not generate as much traffic as short-tail keywords. But the traffic that they do generate is more likely to be turned into a lead or sale!

Long-tail keywords are therefore a lot less competitive, since you are only competing with others in your specific yoga target market, rather than every single type of ‘yoga class’ in the world!

This therefore means that they typically cost less to target too.

However, finding long-tail keywords to use in your yoga studio Google ads takes more research to ensure that you are targeting ones that are worthwhile.

One of the best ways to use long-tail keywords to use in Google ads for yoga instructors are location keywords.

For example, ‘yoga class Manchester’ is a long-tail location keyword.

Someone searching for this term is clearly looking for a specific thing- a yoga class in Manchester.

Including this keyword in your yoga Google ads therefore means that your page will meet a more specific user intent.

Plus, there is less competition for location keywords, since you are only competing with other businesses in that location.

yoga studio google ads 2

This not only means that you will generate more traffic, but this traffic is then more likely to be converted into a lead or sale.

As well as specifying the name of the location in the keyword, another way to use target users from a specific location is through phrases such as:

  • ‘Yoga class near me’
  • ‘Find a yoga teacher near me’

Google then uses the IP address of the user to display results local to them.

This means that even if they don’t specify the location in their search term, your yoga Google ad will still appear to people in your area!

Finally, you can also use long-tail keywords based on the type of yoga you offer.

For example, if you are an Ashtanga yoga teacher, the keyword ‘Ashtanga yoga class birmingham’ would help you target a specific user intent in a specific location (people looking for Ashtanga yoga in Birmingham).

Again, this means that you are targeting a more specific audience, making it more likely that you will generate traffic that will then convert into leads or sales.

With this in mind, make sure to include some broad short-tail keywords to target a wider audience, but most of your keywords should be more specific long-tail keywords.

This may take more time and effort, but it will ultimately lead to more leads and sales from your yoga teacher Google ads!

#3 – Optimise The Page That Your Yoga Google Ads Leads To

yoga studio google ads 3

Our final tip for creating Google ads for yoga instructors is to optimise the page that your ad directs users to, also known as a ‘landing page’.

But in summary, a landing page is simply a web page that users land on from an external source- such as Google.

It is usually focused on getting users to take a specific, targeted action, such as:

  • Submit an enquiry
  • Sign up to a class or event
  • Make a purchase

You should ensure that as soon as users are taken to your landing page, they find exactly what they are looking for.

If your landing page is not optimised and the action you want them to take is not clear, users will navigate away from your page, back to the search results page and choose another page instead!

This not only means that you have lost out on a potential paying customer, but it also increases your ‘click back rate’, which negatively impacts your website’s SEO and visibility.

After all, as we have mentioned, you are paying Google for every click your advert gets. You should therefore ensure that every click is worthwhile and leads to an enquiry or a sale!

The best way to do this is by ensuring that your landing page has a clear Call To Action (CTA).

This should be visible as soon as users land on your page!

For example, let’s say someone searches for the term ‘hot yoga newcastle’.

yoga teacher google ads 5

As you can see, the first result to appear is a paid result, indicated by the word ‘Sponsored’.

Already from the search title, we can see that they have optimised their yoga studio Google ad by including a long-tail keyword ‘hot yoga studio in Newcastle’ in the headline.

When you click onto this page, the user is taken to the landing page:

yoga teacher google ads 4

This is a great example of a landing page for yoga studio Google ads.

Not only does it clearly give information about the studio (brand name, logo, address), but it also makes it very easy for users to be converted into sales.

This is done by using a clear CTA (the ‘Book A Class’ button). So from just one click, they are directed to a sales page where they will become a paying customer!

By reducing the steps the user has to take from the search results page, they are more likely to find what they are looking for on your page, making the cost of your yoga Google ads worthwhile.
